Which should I send my comics to: CGC or PGX ??

46 posts in this topic

If you send to PGX, be sure to specifically request Ryan Elliot as your service provider. He'll treat your books as if they were his own.

Like there are any other employees working in his mom's garage with him. lol

I thought it was his mom's basement? :baiting:

Hello!

I am getting ready to send about 20 comics for grading, and I am wondering whether to send them to CGC or PGX.

What do you folks see as the reasons for going to PGX or CGC? (shrug)

Will PGX grades get the same recognition as the same grade for CGC?

Which will sell better, PGX or CGC?

There are numerous differences in "getting the comics done" concerning price and turn around time:

As a member of CGC, I can send them in, for books published between 1980 and 2013, 15 or more at a time, pay $18 each, and wait @ 60 days currently for them. For $28 per book, they will get the back in 10 days. Individuals can not submit books to CGC for grading, only members can.

As an individual, with PGX, for books published between 1978 and 2013, I can send in 1 or more, pay $13 each ( meaning I can start with a $13 investment), and wait 20 days for them.

When it comes to comic published before the listed dates, CGC will charge $25 with a 15 book minimum (meaning I have to invest $375 to start). They will turn around in 20 days for $35 per book with a 15 book minimum ( $525 to start). They have others services for $35, $45, $60, and $95 for delivery in 59, 20, 15, or 5 days. PGX charges $20 with a 20 day turnaround.

I am leaning toward PGX because of the cost and turn around time, but I am very interested in what you folks have to say. I may not make sense tto do it if the buying publix does not view PGX as a legitimate grading source.

Thanks in advance! :applause:

Do yourself a favor and just hold on to them for a couple more years.

Bottom line. If you plan to sell your graded books, go with CGC. CGC is definitely the leader in graded comics. PGX is a distant second (and there is no third at this time).

Also, the CGC graded book will likely be worth at least 2-3x more than the same book graded by PGX. This is mostly because a lot of people do not trust PGX's grading standards.

Either mylite them or CGC them. CGC is more expensive and the turn around is longer. I used PGX(formerly CGG & something else) and CGC when the beginning of the whole third party grading thing started. I had an incident where some books were damaged in shipping (to PGX). Back then, assuming (yea I know), they were a honest organization, I didn't give it a thought. I stepped away from the hobby for 10 years and rejoined this community I learned a lot about PGX. Learning what I did concerns me as to what could potentially be in those slabs. Use the search function on this site and search Google, you'll be floored at what you will read, I know I was. There are some people who have said shadey things of CGC as well. You're always going to have skeptics, but when you start seeing visual evidence that weighs heavily against character, you'll have your answer. If you're still uncertain, PM or ask boardies questions, there are plenty of people here that will help out.

Ok, so now one day this weekend I think I will free those few books from their slabs and hopefully they will be the books I sent in.

Send your books to PGX. You'll love them.

I agree.

I was planning on going on the Apple / MAC message boards to get advice on what kind of PC I should get. I'll let you guys know.

:roflmao: I'm still laughing 10 minutes after reading this...

I see him at all the shows buying books.

He's smart.

He buys only CGC books.

Hello!

I am back after doing some research as suggested by Iceman 399.

1. Comic Book Grading Scale was helpful on PGX:

http://pgxcomics.com/collectors-information/grading-scale/

2. Comparing the comic book slabbers/graders (CGC/PGX/ACE) was interesting:

ACE-/10000000002677480/g.html

3. Does PGX Rating Bring Down the Price was also interesting:

http://community.ebay.com/t5/Comics/Does-PGX-Rating-Bring-Down-The-Value-

I may have been here for almost a year as someone said, but I do not know what JoesCGCmaniac means when he states that: I have 183 posts, I've created 71 topics, mostly in the PGM thread.

How is this relevant?

Give the guy a break. He's probably trying to win some PGX contest, where if the contestant posts enough positive PGX comments on the CGC forum, he wins a free TMT first print label for every 4 third prints that he submits.
