It looks less shiny in your pictures, which is good.

It's a matte finish; not shiny at all, which I agree is a good thing. Not sure why the promo pics look that way.

It doesn't look shiny at all to me in the promo pic but then again I know how it's lit.

I was all ready to jump all over the Sideshow PF, I even had my name on the waitlist for the Skrull exclusive. But when it was released and I started seeing in-hand pics, many folks were disappointed with the paint job and the less-than-flush seams where the shoulder rests on the body. I'm glad my waitlist didn't convert, even though I love Spider-Woman.

I actually have the other statue by Bowen. It is gorgeous and with the gargoyle base, it's got a good size to it. I didn't even know about it until I saw a local seller had it up for sale. I've got it sitting next to my Sideshow Spider-Woman LSB. :)

Yeah, these things can be a crapshoot. I'm quite happy with mine and I think it looks way better in person than the pictures convey (as these things often do), but I'm aware of the issues.

I actually passed initially as well, but Sideshow had a portion of their regular stock redone, and they recently popped up on their website. The one I got is from that new batch, and thankfully, it has no real issues.

This has been a concern of mine re: sideshow. I keep hearing tales of bad paint jobs and production flaws. I really want to get the Green Lantern statue they put out a few months back, but again, I read about some production problems. COI, do you order your sideshows direct from them? Or do you wait to pick them up on the secondary market? And have you ever experienced any paint/production issues yourself?

Here's the thing: the statue community has a very picky vocal minority that tends to harp on even minor things, while many satisfied people don't speak up. Sideshow has had some issues with pieces in the past, and because of the detail of these pieces, complications are bound to happen. But the complaints among the community tend to lean toward the extreme.

I try to buy most of my stuff from Sideshow. They have a no-hassle return policy and will even send replacement parts when possible. I have purchased more than a dozen from them directly, and the only real problem I had was with Spider-Woman; her head went on flush, but then was very difficult to remove. After fiddling with it for a while, I realized that I had to simply pull and twist it a certain way and it came out easily. It would have potentially been a problem with someone who is less patient, as they could have easily broken one of the strands of hair while attempting to remove the piece.

That's what I figured. I also agree about ordering direct from the company, just for the security of knowing if there's a problem, there's a good chance they can fix or replace it. My Bishop statue came with a very tiny but noticeable chip on his face. Bowen covered the shipping both ways, touched it up, gave me a small refund, and mailed it back in under 2 weeks. I'm sure I could have snagged one on eBay for cheaper, but these statues are very fragile, intricately detailed, and put together by 9 year old Chinese factory workers. there's bound to be a few messed up pieces in the bunch.

Ms Marvel is pretty awesome. Don't have that one.

Have you seen the upcoming Red Sonja exclusive with the severed head? That may end up eventually taking the crown for best PF ever:

I ordered that one. Can't wait!

Good move. The severed head version is already sold out and it will likely command a huge premium once it comes out. Can't wait either. :headbang:

Bottom line, if you're into this whole statue thing, Sideshow does the best work bar none. You also get a lot more bang for your buck spending $350-$400 on a 1/4 scale PF rather than $250 for a 1/6 scale Bowen, and this is coming from someone who used to have a large Bowen collection. Don't let the negativity online put you off; I love every one of my Sideshow pieces and I'd have dozens more if space weren't an issue.

I remember coming across a thread a few years ago and being wowed by statues. I looked into picking some up. I really wanted the Kraven one based off of one of my favorite covers (ASM 47) but never pulled the trigger. I remember wanting Juggernaut, Magneto, Thanos, Wolverine vs. Sabretooth...and maybe Fin Fang Foom which would be fine but then it quickly became...Bullseye, Electro Mysterio, and oh yeah all the Spidey Villains. I wasn't planing on picking up many super heroes, but wow that Ghost Rider on his motorcycle is pretty crazy. In the end I never wound up jumping in as others had mentioned it can balloon pretty fast. Maybe in a few years I'll revisit them. I did pick up a Joker statue and Kraven bust over a decade ago but that's about it.

I pre-ordered the exclusive on Day 1, can't wait for Red Sonja to be released. She was one of the best statues at SDCC this year. 1,500 ES is somewhat high for this character but it's got an awesome exclusive. It's also pretty pretty big, tip to base is 27".

I agree with COI that there are a few very vocal people in the statue collecting community that nitpick on the most minor of things. For instance, this morning with the sneak peek video of Wonder Woman was released, people were already complaining about the skin tone. Seriously, if you harp on these superficial things, why even bother spending $400+ on a statue??

I tend to agree, I buy all my Sideshow statues directly from them. Shipping is reasonable to Canada. They have the exclusives and it's better to deal with the directly if there's any problems. Plus, you get 5% back in points you can apply to future purchases.

I think Bowen would be the next one on the list. They make some great stuff, too, and their paint jobs are fantastic, from what I've seen. I have the Jean Grey Marvel Girl and I need to get the recent Ms Marvel's/Captain Marvel's because I love Carol. Carol Corps FTW!

Bowens can be hit or miss, but there are so many pieces and they've been doing it for so long that there are PLENTY of "hits" to collect. They're also really good about staying true to the comics, which is great.

The problem, as you are probably well aware, is that once you see a 1/4 scale Sideshow PF in person, it changes the entire game. They are so detailed and command such a presence that it's hard to look back once you go down that road. If Bowen pieces were still $150-ish, they would be a lot more competitive in my mind. But it just doesn't make sense to me when you see the difference in size and detail in person, compared to the retail price difference.

I posted this earlier, but it illustrates what I mean for people who don't have the frame of reference: The Moon Knight piece is 1/6 scale (Bowen scale), and the Deadpool and Colossus are 1/4 PFs:

Are there any Thanos statues that can be had without selling my car?

Thanks.

Peace,

Chip

As far as I know, there is the 1/5 Sideshow piece which will run you $700-$900; three different Bowen versions, one of which you can snag for maybe $250, while the other two will run you around $400 to $500 each, and a Diamond Select Thanos that seems to be available on Ebay for $200-ish.

I don't collect busts, so there may be some cheaper alternatives there.
