Venus haha , need I say more doh!

I put a pretty strong bid in on the Venus 19 6.0, didn't win.

Wow...

Extremely strong result. Doesn't bode well in my attempt on the 4.5 tomorrow....

:)

You might surprise yourself. Without floor bidding you may get a better deal than its 3,000.00 counterpart :o

Who got the Keen Detective #9 - errr - who stole the Keen Detective #9?

I just got lucky. :cloud9: Now I can sell the 6.0 copy I have. It's a tough one for sure.

My jaw hit the ground in amazement that no one else went after the book - I was typing an email when I heard the listing close and was like, "Oh %^*%%(^%!!!!". Enjoy!!

Congrats, that was a great looking copy. A much lower conditioned one sold on ebay at about the same time of day.

Wow that Adv 36 was smokin' @ closed under 5k w prem.
just internet is closed...live bidding in about an hour (thumbs u

Oh my, what gives w the price, its just a pre hero w no bat supes spider or wolverine... at this rate i can now afford a 0.5 copy

I hadn't seen that one, but that price is bizarre. I guess a couple of guys with more money than brains got into a bidding war.

Finished at: $5,676.25 (includes BP). And the seller is taking offers. I've never been a huge DC guy, but these covers really grabbed my eye. I had seen a few of them before but the colors on this one really stood out. That said, and I know the guide is just a "guide" on a lot of these, but I hoped I had an outside shot at it and didn't expect it to go over 6x guide!

Am I alone in thinking the price on the Venus 19 was not crazy high? Right about what I would expect, even a little lower. (shrug)

Nope. I expected it to bring $2500-3500. That book is on a lot of wantlists, with very few copies to go around.

Then My estimate was indeed low.

Thanks for the info

Holy carp. Did you guys see the Weird Comics #20 result? Now that is a phenomenal cover and I want one. But $4200 for a 4.5. Wow. Congrats to the seller AND the buyer.

That was the only book I was watching.

(And when the internet bidding finished around $600, I was debating whether or not to bid $800.) lol

Books will always come on the market, but with the shift to OA, the push to get them is gonna be less. Just look at this auction, which is top heavy with over 800 pieces of original art...and so we see a pattern.

There were some very good GA books this auction, but real steals come on Sat with internet bidding only...

i don't think there is any "shift" to OA for the hobby. Maybe for Heritage, but not the hobby.

I watched every lot of GA in real time tonight and most outperformed what I would have expected.

I know 100s of GA comic collectors, darn few of them have "shifted" to OA, Darn few.

Yep. I didn't keep track systematically, but the overwhelming majority of GA seemed to sell for guide or above.

I had to leave before the auction ended and was thinking of putting in a proxy bid for around the same amount. I'm glad i didn't waste those 5 seconds of my life.

My impression is that Hitler covers have been pretty hot recently. But still...

I wouldn't have thought anyone else was searching for it, but as a Fox collector and specifically a collector of the Weird Comics run, Weird #20 has been a grail of mine for a very long time.

Thanks to the kindness of boardie Dan/buttock, I own a Fr/Gd copy and I love it. But I am always keeping an eye out for a possible upgrade, even if just a modest one. It's a really tough book, as are all of the late '41/early '42 Fox books. Other than my copy, Jon Berk's copy and an extensively restored copy which made the rounds many years back, I'd never seen another until now.

I guess it's kind of like Zip #22 (a 5.0 copy went for a mind-boggling $3200 recently). Cool cover rarely for sale in any grade, and it just takes a couple of crazed bidders to drive it way up.
