True story. It's pretty grim when you read it.

 

I was introduced to this story as a kid when I collected stamps. I considered myself a coin and stamp collector at the time even though I bought and read comic books. Too young to consider the funny books as a hobby yet I guess. Here's the stamp commemorating them.

I had no idea that the Chaplains comic was based on a true story. Not exactly my favorite Cole cover but I see it in a completely different light now that I know they're about to die.

That's a great looking stamp honoring them also.

Thats a great Piece of history. I haven't have time to fully read the book yet. Ill have to read it later.
