Cross-posting from the "Crime"  thread.

I bought these foreign crime books years ago and I'm not sure what they are. The interiors are black and white, and the covers are the same paper as the interiors.

The #7 is my favorite with the knife to the throat, and the woman in the foreground. The last book (#11) looks very much like an L. B. Cole cover to me. Does anyone have any background info on these books?

Ok, I've been look at these books for a few days and they are very cool!  When are they from?  The 50's I'm guessing?  What is the publisher on these?

I don't think that any are Cole books, but I think they are Cole-ish if that makes sense.  That last one has things like the purple car, other bright colors, the cover layout with story titles, but I don't think it's his stuff.  It reminds me of some of his Thrilling Crime Cases (a phrase also used on that above cover) like this one:

To me the brush / line work doesn't seem like his.  And I know that is a bit contradictory to some thoughts that I have because Cole used so many techniques and had different art styles over the course of his career, but looking at the overcoat on the right and the floorboards doesn't remind me of any other work of his I've seen.

All that said, these comics are darn cool!  Any other thoughts?  This is just my 2c.

Absolute classic I'd never seen before.  I took the opportunity to get it up at Flickr in a Cole gallery

Blue Bolt 110 (1951-08.Star) cover L.B. Cole (HA Darwin Edit)

One of my favs due to the colours...as I am not an artist, it has become my mission during my teaching career to inspire a student who is great at art to recreate this for me (just the main image).

I've learned these are Australian books published by Horwitz in 1952/1953. There seems to be 20 books in the run.

I was just playing around with my custom sets and trying to pick out more books to send in.  I realized I hadn't added this to my LB Cole set and noticed there's only 2 on the census and this is the top one!  Not on many (or anyone's) must have lists, but it's mine!  :D  Interestingly enough, no "LB Cole cover" note, but his sig is right there.

It's way freaky. And those shady-looking horses wearing hats are more than a little sus.

I think that bear on the left planted it, but he paid the horses off to look the other way.:shy:

Amazing that there are still LB Cole covers out there I've never seen before... but I'd never seen this one.

Never saw this one either! Nice cover, my only critique would be that the darker eye color that works well on the girl does not look good on the man. His closed eyes look like walnuts!!!
