Popular Post KirbyJack
I have long advocated Two - Fisted Tales 25 as a comic that has it all. A Classic cover and one of EC’s best stories, “Corpse on the Imjin”. Jayman, Raze, OtherEric and 3 others
Popular Post Robot Man
When Russ Cochran began selling the file copies from Gaines. This was the war book I wanted the most... Downgraded because of a small lower right corner crease. I have often thought of having it pressed but figured I would just leave it alone. The "Carrion Death" story has been burned into my head for probably 50 years and the creepiest story I have ever read in an EC. I received it with a small pile of my uncle's EC's when I was about 10. Of all the stories in his ECs, that one actually gave me nightmares. That last panel... Popular Post Robot Man
I would also consider this one of the best of the best. Starts with the cover and ends with the SOTI "Foul Play" baseball story. Even the Grim Fairy Tales story which are usually lame packs a punch. I bought this from a guy at a con many years ago. Paid up well for it at the time. I hestitated a little but the dealer wouldn't budge. Said it was his favorite. So glad, I took the plunge. I have owned one complete EC collection and one about 85% complete. When I sold them off, this was one I always kept. It is a cycle which is normal in our collecting circle, of course it helps that these are the best comics on the planet art and story wise overall. comicginger1789
I have a question for those much more knowledgeable than me on EC stuff but why are there two different Haunt of Fear issue 17’s? I have the “zombie” cover one but I know there is another issue of Haunt of Fear 17 that has a green background and different art...numbering snafu? I know a lot of books from this time frame were renumbered and messed with but wondered if there was any clarification....

I know a lot of books from this time frame were renumbered and messed with but wondered if there was any clarification.... It had to do with trying to get around the postal service second class matter regulations regarding subscription mailings. EC pulled this trick several times, but they weren't alone...many publishers did it. The post office offered a second-class mailing permit that required publishers to pay an initial fee on every new title. Comic publishers found a loophole - if they renamed the comic but kept the same numbering (I suppose thereby arguing that it wasn't a "new title"), they avoided paying the initial fee. So, when Haunt of Fear started, EC continued the numbering from Gunfighter (which was discontinued). That is, the last issue of Gunfighter was #14...so EC picked up the numbering sequence with the first issue of Haunt of Fear, which then received the number 15. The second issue of HoF was numbered 16, and the third issue was numbered 17. So the non-zombie cover numbered 17 is actually the third issue of HoF. Apparently, after the third issue the post office caught on and closed down the loophole...so, EC then had to number the fourth issue #4 (and, I presume, pay the fee for the new title), and things were straightened out after that (i.e., the fifth issue is #5, the sixth issue is #6, etc.). So, the non-zombie cover #17 is actually the third issue (generally denoted as HoF #17(3)), and the zombie cover #17 is actually the seventeenth issue of HoF. Robot Man
Exactly and well explained Ed. I remember as a kid looking all over for Tales from the Crypt 1-19. As well as a bunch of other titles first few issues. Took me a few years until Gary Arlington explained it to me. Still looking for that Crypt of Terror #1 that I saw pictured in those late issues. Popular Post OtherEric
Second, I’ve been saying every time this one comes up I need to upgrade, because it’s a spectacular cover, and a copy in my wheelhouse finally turned up. A spine split to just below the lower staple and very slight discoloration along the spine dropped the price on this copy way down but it’s still a gorgeous book: Larryw7, adamstrange, Jasonmorris1000000 and 5 others
Popular Post Dave Henson
I scored the Haunt boxed set on eBay last night. Includes the box 🤪. I’ve bid in the past over $400 and always lost. Very happy with the price on this one! It’s been on my want list since the 90’s when I bought Vault and Tales. KirbyJack
I don't have a Haunt 15 (#1). Can anyone confirm that the beckoning ghoul on its cover is, as it plainly appears to be, The Vault Keeper? I know in the innards there is no host, but I'm wondering if any mention is made inside.
