At least so many sources now compared to the mail order days. I wasn't able to travel to conventions either. I look back at Verzyl's Comic Heaven Auction and Wooley's and grabbed up books from those but of course back then, dollars were short and I was just getting my GA feet wet then so had a lot to learn. There was both excitement and fear when I ordered something sight unseen. I got Daniel Dupcaked once ordering from a TBG ad.
Robot Man
Ah, the TBG days. All you needed was a stamp and an envelope. Problem for me was I lived on the West Coast. By the time I got my copy, everything I wanted was usually sold... And whenever I typed up an ad and sent it in, my phone would ring at 4:00 AM. Man, my mom got pizzed! I wonder how surprised the seller is at the result? He likely had no idea what makes the book special as he didn't even advertise it in the listing. When it was first listed, he hadn't posted CF or BC pics so I messaged him. He had forgotten and did post them. His response was gracious. He's not a comic novice looking at some of his sold items but yeah, I doubt he knows the connection. I always wonder if a seller may be a boardie - I doubt it here. Never dreamed it would go that high. It would have been a weird coincidence if it hammered at $6 more for a total of $666 considering.... gino2paulus2
rjpb
Crazy price. I thought I was pushing the envelope when I asked $95 for a lower grade copy three or four years ago.

In the early days of ebay I ended up winning a lot of "three old romance comics" with no further description and a single photo. One of the three was a copy of Giant Comics Edition #12 (Diary Secrets). It was just me and a dealer bidding, and I ended up paying $1000 for the lot. The seller was ecstatic, and couldn't believe what the books sold for. szucchini, sagii and Point Five

Action252Kid
Not sure if anyone else commented on this, but it's crazy to me that the ZodiacKiller discussion board link in the first post of this thread is STILL an ongoing topic on that site with over 250 replies! I just skimmed parts of it and it seemed like some people were going a little (way) overboard trying to connect this book & Red Ryder comics from the 1940's etc to the killer. It wouldn't surprise me if someone from that Zodiac site won the book.

telerites
Not saying this could have caused the fat hammer but I ironically heard a ad while listening to a podcast about the new Zodiac Killer podcast, "Atlanta Monster / Monster: The Zodiac Killer." https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-monster-28735578/ Not something I listen to as I stay with OTR and sports mainly.
