OK, let's see your favorite breas...uh... "headlights" covers

200 posts in this topic

Funny how no one seems to mind the covers of women in bondage facing certain death. confused-smiley-013.gif At least in the cover in question you see a girl smiling and acting of her own free will. I guess some would rather see helpless women being bound and tortured, as if that was more acceptable. Go figure.

The fundamental difference between the cover you posted and the rest (except for one other cover you posted) is that they are all basically comic books with superheroes, adventure, action, danger poses, etc.,. Transform these covers into real life as if they were a movie poster and you would think of an action, adventure, super-hero, sci-fi, fantasy movie, etc.,. Transform the cover in question into real life and you would think of pornography. In fact, it looks a picture from a "barely legal" website pop up ad. foreheadslap.gif

Since I've never read any, do the interior of those books feature any kind of humor, adventure, super-heroes, etc.,. or just sexual exploits?

Holy Moley! And to think that I am having to defend myself on THIS, of all topics foreheadslap.gif.

So who cares if the cover depicts a "mortal" as opposed to a super-heroine or soon to be rescued girlfriend of a hero? Do we now have different standards for different kinds of female characters on comic book covers? The extent of what is allowed either sexually or violently depends on WHO the character is? foreheadslap.gif

Sure the interior is sexually oriented. Whether the characters are some kind of heros having sex or just regular people, what in the heck does it matter? Why are you saying there has to be "adventure" or "fantasy" elements for it to maybe be more acceptable? There are plenty of comics (mostly non-DC and Marvel) that deal with regular folks. So, these books are about some kind of lame hero but I believe that is just an excuse for the sexual content. So do we now have a problem with comics specifically created to be about sex? Do we?

I just don't understand where some of you guys are coming from. I'm not sure if I am reading here about double standards, accusations of child pornography, or that comics should just not have sex as a primary focus. confused-smiley-013.gif

Like I said, that cover looks more like a picture from a "barely legal" website pop up ad than a comic book and I'm glad my LCS doesn't carry this kind of stuff or I'd be totally embarassed to go in their with my kids, but that's just me. sumo.gif

Anyhow, I think you need to ask yourself why you feel the need to "defend (yourself) on this" in the first place, no one is accusing you of anything, are they? 893naughty-thumb.gif

You can have comics with sex as a primary focus. That's not what the complaint here is, and, there's no way you can't understand that. The complaint here is that the book you posted is part of a trend towards making porn more "child-like". The whole trend is towards the "Barely Legal" and "Just 18" kind of stuff and the book you put up feeds into that. Whether she is 18, or 25, or whatever is irrelevant. She looks 16. That's the whole point of the image.

Come on "FlyingDonut" both you and I collect GA bondage/torture covers. I have to admit that some of the bondage covers could easily be viewed as teenage girls hog-tied with a bunch of cowboys running around. Does collecting those covers turn us into sexual deviants, of course not. Just because someone collects a cetain type of art, comic, etc. (not real photos) doesn't make them a bad person. It's like someone telling me that since I watched Terminator 3, then I'm going to go outside and shoot someone's head off.

Like others, I do have some nude covers that I've bought privately off e-bay and have them out of sight in a box. I don't collect these books anymore, but have not done anything wrong in doing so. Seriously, how many of us have looked at Playboy pictures of girls that are barely 18. We have to draw the line somewhere between someone who collects comic books with nude pictures, and someone who's into child pornography. I would rather kill myself than be the latter.

Thanks for that Sky, I agree there are double standards. Usually when regarding sexually provacative covers and different styles through the ages. I see that some are "acceptable" along with a rationalization why, and then there are others that are not because they don't fit that individual's tastes. While I agree with Donut that the intent of the cover is to make the girl look young and innocent (even though most likely older) I see nothing wrong with that. Obviously the woman's body is fully developed and the younger looking face does not take away from that sexual image. Further (and this is just me) I see no problem whatsoever with a 21 year old actress or model portraying herself as a 16 year old in a sexual scene. THAT is not child pornography. A person seeing these images is no more likely to become a pedophile than a peaceful man is to become a murderer after seeing any crime drama.

And again, this is just me, but I see scenes of bondage, torture and helplessness as way more offensive and degrading to women than a scene of a woman freely engaging in sexual behavior, teasing (as in this cover) or otherwise.

One last thought, I also do not see the woman in this cover as looking any younger than the women in all the other covers shown. More realistically depicted, but not any younger. And if anyone disagrees with me, then you surely have the right. I will defend my words and my artistic tastes, but I really do not care what anyone else thinks of them. Good thing I didn't show some of my other Huerta covers, some of you guys may have gone into shock (or had to go to the hospital because you became so "sick"). devil.gif

Classic Frazetta.

Vintage always seem more of a wink wink vs the modern, in your face, stuff. (mmmm in your face.....)

Seems like something you'd see in an interracial porn site pop ad 893naughty-thumb.gif27_laughing.gif

Well this WAS a good thread until it got derailed. Shall we try again?

Continuing with Dave Stevens' covers.

Who'd a thunk you would find a headlights cover in a Johnny Quest series? Guess that's what happens when you have Dave Stevens as a guest artist. smirk.gif

[You can pretty much disregard page 5-7 of this thread. gossip.gif]
