150 posts in this topic

Ok gang here's the latest.

I visited all of my LCS's today and gave them a highlights list of what was stolen also gave them throw away cameras per Nerf's suggestion - Thanks Nerf

Here's a partial list. - Still working on a complete list.

All silver and bronze age books. All bagged and boarded or CGC'd

1) AMS #50 - 9.4 universal - new CGC Label design

2) AMS #40 - 9.0 univeral - new CGC Label

3) AMS #129 - 7.0 - CGC

4) Ghost Rider 1 - 7.0 CGC

5) Marvel Spotlight #5 - 6.5 CGC

All were stolen from my place in the Memphis, TN area

Also lost several FF books and some DC's

I appreciate everyone who is keeping an eye out for the biggies listed above (especially the #50 and #40). I'll post the serial no's from the CGC'd books after CGC gets back from the holiday.

Thanks again to everyone for their support.

Yes, there was a storm but it didn't keep the thief from going to the bank with my stolen checks after taking the comics. It's also possible that the theft was on the 21st or 22nd.

Banks have surveillance cameras in place. I would think it would be relatively easy for law enforcement to find the culprit(s) if they entered the bank to cash the check. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif I wish you luck in getting your comics back.

Since we're putting on our detective caps, the more I think about it, the more I'm also convinced that this was probably done by someone you know. The odds of a complete stranger breaking into your home just to rob you of comic books is astronomical. Couple that with the fact the burgular knew when you'd be out of town so as to hit your home when it was empty? I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like the person who robbed you might be someone you've let into your home before.

This is starting to sound like our own little Identity Crisis theory thread. We'll call it "Theft Crisis". 27_laughing.gif I think it was the mailman. He snuck in through the doggy door. No, it was the gardener through an open window. Ah, to heck with it, it was BATMAN. insane.gif

It's a well known fact that it's almost always The Butler who did it! makepoint.gifdevil.gif

SEE MY COMPLETE LIST POSTED TODAY 1/4/05!!!!!!

Thanks Fuelman,

I appreciate everyone's goodwill and PM's on this subject. I will be posting the CGC serial numbers of the stolen books shortly as well as an updated listing of what was stolen. Bottom line is I lost a buttload of Silver age Spidey books (Among others) some of which are 14 - 6.5,40 - 9.0, 50 - 9.4,51 - 8.0, 59 - 8.5 121 - 9.2, 122 - 9.2,129 - 7.0 or 7.5 all CGC'd (Some we're cgc'd by me and some I bought on ebay the 121 and 122 are the old blue label the rest are the new larger/newer label). Remember #50 is a 9.4 with the new blue label. It should stick out no matter where it's sold and I will have the serial number for it. (Just hope the thief didn't crack it out of the case).

Please keep your eyes open out there fellas. I've canvassed all of my local LCS and am going to call every pawn shop in my local yellow pages tomorrow.

If you see auctions that are remotely suspicious please PM me and I'll do the follow up. The auction could originate anywhere but look out for auctions in TN, MS, and ARK.

Thanks,

Chad

Update on stolen books (CGC) - Spidey #70,# 79 - F.F. - #61 - 9.0, #70 - 7.0

Do you guys remember that scene in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" when Pee Wee has an all day meeting with everyone he knows regarding the disappearance of his bike complete with scale models, potential motives, hundreds of clues a pointer and of course COMPLETE obsession?

That's where I'm at right now frame of mind wise with these stolen comics.

Gotta go now, I've got a bus ticket to San Antonio so I can look in the basement of the Alamo for them. insane.gif

Hate to hear this kind of thread...I doubt there are too many people here who can't sympathize one thousand percent with your plight! Even though 99% of us haven't been in your shoes, it's something that most of us here either fear or are highly concerned about. I know you made me want to try to get two or three more safety deposit boxes before I went on vacation all last week... crazy.gif

Hello Everyone,

If you or your people by chance happen to run across these books please call me at 901-752-0692 or 503-551-9805 anytime. I have a police detective on this and I would love to catch this thief and to prosecute him. I had some checks stolen as well and the bank tellers remember this guy to a degree. He's white, medium build, brown hair, in his late twenties to early forties.

It's good to know that there are good samaritan's out there. Thanks everyone and

Happy New Year.

Sorry to hear about your books. We're all hoping that you can get them back soon and intact. My advice would be to approach this situation very carefully. You don't want to spook the burglar into destroying the evidence.

After reading your thread I finally decided to place 21 of my top CGC graded books in a safe deposit box this weekend. I'm thinking of getting a larger box that will fit another 50 to 55 books. The $300 spent on these safe deposit boxes per year will let me sleep a lot better at night. I would still have about 300 slabbed books at home, but their value is only 30% of the total.

I've already moved the rest of my valuable slabs to a safer place and am going to get a safety deposit box for the rest of my high grade books shortly. I hope I've helped save a few books from being stolen by posting here.

Just a thought, you might want to talk to Steve B. (if you haven't already) and give them a heads up in case these books get resubmitted. They might be able to catch these books, if they are resubbed all at one time.

I hope you get your books back and soon! 893crossfingers-thumb.gif
