The fact that this is still happening tells you everything you need to know. CGC knows labels are getting switched. They can't (or won't) stop it from happening. This isn't rocket surgery. The literal bare minimum of QC would catch this.

+1.

this is ridiculous. how many times does this have to happen? someone needs to get walking papers. no excuse for this.

Got my Perez books back - and I'm 100% certain my two copies of Wonder Woman #1 had their labels swapped.  One is 9.4 with notes "light spine stress lines to cover", one is 9.2 with "light bends to cover" and "light spine stress lines to cover".  But the "9.2" looks fantastic with maybe one or two slight bends, while the "9.4" has very clear multiple light bends on the back cover spine, as well as some corner stress.  Of course, there is no way to prove it to CGC and have them correct the error.   I would say something to CGC, but I'm dead certain they will just prompt me to resubmit for regrading, since it's not an obvious error like having the wrong comic title on the label.

This isn't the first time where I've had two copies of the same book come back, with the "lower-grade" copy looking better than the "higher-grade" book.

It seems to me that it would be tons easier to prevent something from happening, than to fix something that has already happened. Label errors are very preventable.

I can't resist.

@CGC Mike

It would be nice to get some kind of response from CGC about label errors. There are so many examples at this point and on recent books. Is CGC aware this is happening? Are they making any effort to fix this?

A while back, I went through this thread and took examples of books that had QC issues.  They made it to upper management, and we did make an announcement.  With that said, I am going to do it again.  I did receive specific instructions of who I can contact, and they will get the images.  I will start on this tomorrow.   Here is the announcement that was made a while back:

Hello comic book collectors,

We at CGC want to let you know that we have seen your comments, and the concerns that you have shared on this thread have been taken to the highest level of our company. CGC takes quality control very seriously and we have been taking steps to identify and correct the root causes of the issues you’ve identified here. We have also recently added an additional 25,000 square feet of workspace, which has enabled us to hire more people, including QC specialists and operations managers, as well as improve our processes. CGC is fully focused on maintaining – and enhancing – the quality of the services that we provide.

Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. We will attempt to contact those who have posted about a quality control issue so that we can fix it. If anyone ever experiences an issue with quality control or anything else, please do not hesitate to reach out to our dedicated customer service team at 877-662-6642 or service@cgccomics.com.

I wonder how many books are graded per day. Must be high hundreds I bet.

If it were in the high hundreds and if there were even 1% error rate going out the door that would make it look like a lot, but again, it depends on the total number of books graded per day (or week).

So I get this one back and no mention of the sig on the label. I know that it wasn’t witnessed, but don’t they put “Frank Miller written in pen” on the label? I’ve had this book since the early 80’s. Makes me think they didn’t open the book during grading?

Yeah should be a green label with "Name written in ink on splash page" or something similar

I think it'll be Qualified only if it's an unwitnessed signature on the cover. It'll be Universal with maybe a small grade deduction if the signature is on the interior pages. But you're right, it probably should've been noted - "name written on first interior page."

See this example from my collection.

Thank you. Should I send it back? I mean, if I decide to sell, you’ll never know the sig is there??

I’m not sure the notation would help the sale.  Personally I’d leave it be, and not risk sending it through the QC gauntlet again. 2c

Dunno. Sounds like you won't part with it. I'd call customer service and ask. If they agree that something is missing from the label then return it for a fix.

Email the pic you have, because I do believe that "cgc tries to quantify it" by saying as long as it is legible or some such vagueness lol

But that pic does look like it first that criteria, email for the grader or whomever to determine before sending. Who knows if you're lucky, maybe they could quantify it further as a mechanical error and do it for free?

Especially if you put it on the submission form to begin with, seems like they should be able to sort it out :wishluck:
