I've seen examples of slabs with all those page qualities except tan, dark tan, and brown

So, is Pink a natural color during the paper aging process? That one threw me.

No, those are books like the Fox comics where they used paper that started out pink. I asked Steve about this a few months ago.

This is straight from the CGC gallery, beautiful book. Pink pages.

I posted about this one a couple months back.

If you list on Comiclink's site, Josh has these for notations that could appear on a CGC book. Very interesting list. I wonder if it was verified with CGC?

Thx for the list, Sterling.

Still is confusing though. Why would page notation read "Light Tan to OW". It seems to me it the logical progression would be "Light Tan to Cream" (which is on the list) and then "Cream to Off White", no? confused-smiley-013.gif

The outer edge is sometimes a LOT worse off than the center of the book. I've seen books where the outer edge was practically brittle and the heart of the book was more than decent.

That's pretty much what I figured. Not sure if I agree with it though (jumping over a whole PQ designation).

I'm sure the book in your example would get a notation of "slightly brittle", not "brittle to OW".

I book can exhibit what I refer to as "toast" qualities and is best served with butter

A dark crust (outside of the pages) with nice white insides. Basically referred to by dealers as a Halo.

I like "This book is like toast, best served with butter and jelly"

I could be wrong, but I think that the Fox books with "pink" pages, were always tinted that way. Something to do with Victor Fox getting a deal on cheap paper. This is probably also the case with the "pink page" copies of Freak Brothers #1. Another thing I've noticed on a number of Fox books from the 40s is pink bleed on the covers - anybody know why these books especially. Also does CGC have a page quality notation for GA books printed on paper so cheap that you can see specks of wood pulp still in it?

I notice that there's 15 designations there, but here is described 23 different ones (some with examples). If any of these don't actually exist, or if anyone has an example (scan) of one that Mr. Funk doesn't have, relay that info here and I'll bring it to his attention.

The example he has for an X-Men 214 with "tan to cream pages" is the one Steve said here in the forums was a label error when I posted a full scan of it (shown below). However, that doesn't mean it's an invalid example, I guess...they must have planned to use it at some point if it's in their system to select by mistake.

So what is the difference between Slightly Brittle pages and Brittle Pages? Is it as simple as the process of hydration will remove the brittleness off the "Slighty Brittle" pages but will not for the Brittle Pages?

Don't you think that clip in your sig is a little over the top? Probably not appropriate for the board. 893naughty-thumb.gif

We should put the gloves on him and Lok, throw them in the ring.. let them duke it out till they puke.

I for one think it is not very becoming of them to continually [#@$%!!!] slap each other this way..

But I seriously doubt they care what I think.

And I suppose they are just kidding around right?
