I wish I could press books...

I wouldn't heat press anything not newsprint-the finish in slick pages can turn into glue

I know that now lol That is what happened to the fullest extent, I think I could have karate chopped it in 2.

I will leave anything worth more than $30 to the professionals Unless I make some serious progress.

I could use it for round kick demo...

I might experiment with an iron on a low setting and paper covering book too.....

At the end of the day, why can't we simply leave some books alone. Why does every last book have to be pressed. Does anybody just enjoy the books anymore or is it all about the flip ? If you want to make some REAL MONEY, invest in the stock market. It's on fire.

Because why make $5 on a book when you can make $8 instead!!

So invest your time and learn. Just do it. This is not about a life change or making a major decision. Take the time and learn. From what I see, you have the honest effort and intent to do well at anything you seem to want to do.

Chip... just give it a try.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I feel like there's a lot of misinformation about it out there so I wouldn't even know where to begin. What model press to look for, etc...it's all very nebulous and for every person here who claims to know what they're doing there are another 25 people who tell them they don't or can't possibly know. I'm certainly not going to bug Joey or anyone like that...they have enough on their plate without some schmoe like me bothering them.

I hate to trust anything Google brings up, either.

Peace,

Chip

Its pretty easy to learn the basics. All you need to do is buy a cheap press and experiment on some junky books. I found a press for $80 on CL, and just tried working on a few junky books.

In the end, it might take alot of time/work to press books, and you're better off spending the $8-12 and letting a pro do it though. Spine rolls are easy, and if you want to press out something like that, then you can just buy the press and learn quickly. Its not hard to find a decent press, especially if you're just looking to press cheap books.

I read and love and keep all my books. After 25 plus years I just sold my first comic last week..a hot modern I got for a song....used the sale to fund some Canadian Whites...but still felt unclean...

I don't know that I will ever press anything of real value but if I can bring up the value of even 15 $10 books it will have paid for itself.

It scares me that many of you simply think the 'knowledge' of pressing books is acquired solely by the purchase of a press. Of all the career paths in life, is the pressing of a comic book to make 3 dollars really your ambition ? Will I soon see a late night infomercial on pressing comics for profit. I'm not exactly sure what I am trying to say here but maybe it's GET A LIFE .

Sadly there are a HUGE number of people on this very board that have done exactly that, bought a press and experimented. Some of these experiments are for sale from time to time. Some people think only high dollar books get pressed but that is not the case. It covers the full gambit of grades, ages, etc.
