Restored Hulk#1 9.2 on EBay.

There was a restored Hulk 1 CGC 9.0 that went up on eBay a few times, not sure if the reserve was ever met though. I'll definately be watching this book, but I'm skeptical as to whether it's actually a 9.2

Yeah with that messy top/center I don't think it could get more than a 9.0.

8.5 is more likely. yeahok.gif

Likely...this seller has a history of flipping books like this. "some chips filled with color touch" is a bit scary, and while it may be "invisible quality" work, there are some frankostein restored books out there when you start replacing pieces, especially on SA Marvels where it's next to impossible to color/pattern match color (it's not flat color like on GA books).

Still... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

wonder what his return policy is??? i don't see this as a 9.2/9.4 due to that funky center top cover, but it might be a 9.0 which is a very high grade for Hulk 1's.

Sounds about right, and curiously there was a restored 9.0 sold last fall for around $3k I believe.

I have purchased and returned a book from him, so I think he stands behind his sales.

that's good to know as his response to my simple question about his return policy on this book was;

I am disclosing all info I know about the book, the grade is very accurate, and I have a very high feedback with ebay all comic related. If that is not enough to assure you about this book I don’t know what is.

kind of a strange answer to a very simple and straightforward question confused.gif

That's all I would need to hear to stay far away from that auction.

Wow, he's also auctioning off the Mile High copy of Avengers #1 and a NM restored copy of Spidey 14!! 893whatthe.gif

I wonder what kind of success one might have if one's business model centered around buying slabbed restored high-grade keys and unrestored mid-grade early silver age books, unslabbing those that might appear undergraded and selling them raw on ebay after bumping up the grade and re-selling the slabbed books that appear to be accurately/overgraded graded (while stating "COULD EASILY HAVE COME BACK HIGHER")? Since mid-grades don't really bring a CGC premium and we've all seen restored, raw books sell as well (or better) than their restored slabbed counterparts, this could prove profitable, especially since on the average most ebay buyers can't grade all that well so who'd know if one were bumping up the grades? confused-smiley-013.gif

If one were to accept returns and one were to refrain from selling PLODS as unrestored raw (although one could always write a description questioning CGC's restoration determination, and even the grade!), one wouldn't really be doing anything wrong, would one? confused-smiley-013.gif

I wonder how succesful one would be using such a strategy... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Well if he's buying from MH (like the Avengers 1) and thinking he can flip them for more money, I'd guess he's highly unsuccessful.

Brian

He's doing that!?!? 893whatthe.gif

Take a look at the Avengers 1, it's from that Dallas Stephens collection. So obviously he would've had to have bought it from MHC or at least paid a similar price to someone else who bought it from MHC.

I've dealt with the guy and he is pretty solid. thumbsup2.gif I've bought some stuff over the years such as an X men 9, 14, FF 48 etc. My only concern is his packaging, so i always ask for extra sturdy packaging. As for why defensive, I'm sure he's had about 100 emails on the book....it's quite the book. I'd guess that with him diclosing the book is restored, and offering largepictures, what else would there be to return the book for? I'd say his grading is better than most on ebay but still not as tight as CGC, but there are very few people who are...Just some thoughts. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
