BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ action adventure “Aquaman,” helmed by James Wan (“The Conjuring” films, “Furious 7”). Jason Momoa stars in the title role, returning to the character he plays in this fall’s “Justice League.” The film also stars Amber Heard (“Justice League,” “Magic Mike XXL”) as Mera; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Platoon,” “Spider-Man 2”) as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,” “Green Lantern”) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables” films) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (upcoming “Baywatch,” Netflix’s “The Get Down”) as Black Manta; with Patrick Wilson (“The Conjuring” films, “Watchmen”) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Lion”) as Atlanna. The film is being produced by Peter Safran, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Wan’s team behind the scenes includes such frequent collaborators as Oscar-nominated director of photography Don Burgess (“The Conjuring 2,” “Forrest Gump”), his five-time editor Kirk M. Morri (“The Conjuring” films, “Furious 7,” the “Insidious” films) and production designer Bill Brzeski (“Furious 7”). They are joined by costume designer Kym Barrett (“The Matrix” trilogy; “The Amazing Spider-Man”), along with Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Charles Gibson (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2”) and VFX supervisor Kelvin McIlwain (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise). As is fitting for the king of the sea, the shoot will take place mainly in locations spanning the stunning Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, with extensive filming to be accomplished at Village Roadshow Studios. The production will utilize the facility’s sprawling backlot and all nine VRS soundstages, including its newest, Stage 9, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Filming will also take place in Newfoundland, Sicily and Tunisia. An icon for over 75 years, Aquaman is known by fans of DC Comics as the ruler of Atlantis but committed to protecting the entire globe, both land and sea. Currently set for a 2018 release, the film is based on characters from DC.

Although the surrounding wall is green compared to gray, the opening day of Aquaman appears to take place in the Man of Steel oil rig scene. kimik
Looking at the color, I would guess a larger military vessel rather than drilling rig, but the set does look the same.
Bosco685
Quote Amber Heard is currently preparing for her role as Mera in Aquaman, and has posted some pictures of one the workout routines she performs to keep her super-heroine physique. Amber Heard has had to do a lot more than just workout for Aquaman or her cameo in Justice League, but her role as warrior princess Mera seems to demand no less. The actress has also had to do a ton of training in other skills to be prepared to handle the onscreen action. Heard has previously posted pictures of herself working with 87Eleven, the production company responsible for the fight choreography in John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, and the upcoming Charlize Theron starring Atomic Blonde. Bosco685
How The Aquaman Movie Will Tie Into Justice League Quote While speaking with CinemaBlend, Roven said that there would be some definite ties between the two. "Aquaman will make reference [to Justice League]. There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman. I believe that is the intention." Roven went on in his description about the greater DCEU, and how the filmmakers aren't holding themselves back in the slightest. With Aquaman taking place after Justice League, and Wonder Woman acting as a bit of a prequel, the creative team is willing to go in any direction possible with these films. "James [Wan] definitely knows where he's going with Aquaman, and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened, and Wonder Woman obviously takes place before Man of Steel -- except for the bookends we have. So that's where we have the most ability to free-form. We could do a movie that takes place after Justice League, we can do a movie that takes place after Batman v Superman... well not really. You can't do a movie in between BvS and Justice League, but we can do movies that take place after Justice League and we can do movies that precede Justice League." There may have been some problems in the past, but the DCEU looks to be running into the right direction.

Bosco685
Rumored Aquaman Comic-Con Teaser Description Surfaces Quote A description surfaces of Warner Bros and DC Films’ Aquaman teaser that may screen at San Diego Comic-Con this month. Although Warner Bros hasn’t confirmed which films will be featured in their SDCC panel – or when/where the panel will be – it’s likely fans will be treated to a new Justice League trailer and the first footage from Aquaman. Now, a post from Reddit subcommunity r/DCEUleaks claims entertainment marketing firm Trailer Park has cut an Aquaman teaser for SDCC, revealing a brief description of what it contains: 'It was around 1 min 30 secs long. … It opens with some mellow piano music, showing Amnesty Bay with a voiceover from Momoa. The music then turns cinematic, Zimmer-style I would say. We get various shots of the characters - Mera, Murk etc. The teaser ended with a really, really cool scene of Arthur standing on a rock-type thing and activates his trident and creates a massive wave.' This Aquaman description supposedly comes from someone who saw the teaser themselves – though it’s unconfirmed whether the reddit user actually works for Trailer Park. Bosco685
They must have enough film at this point, as Aquaman is going to be shown at SDCC. Warner Bros. Bringing JUSTICE LEAGUE And AQUAMAN To Hall H For Comic-Con Quote Apparently, the Justice League cast will be there with Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) all in attendance. It's not clear whether they'll be joined by Zack Snyder, Joss Whedon, or both, but it was at last year's Comic-Con that we got a first look at the movie so a new trailer is pretty much a guarantee. Aquaman will also be getting the spotlight. Considering the fact Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League all debuted trailers there, chances are we'll be taking our first trip to Atlantis in San Diego.
