I figgered they grade GA books more lenient so I overgraded the WF

I hammered that one because of the foxing. I don't know why CGC would be more lenient - foxing is the gift that keeps on giving. Better change my strategy now.

An 8.0!! Seriously!?? Wow. Just.... wow.

 

I have a AV57 7.0 that looks a TON better than that foxing-covered "8.0".

 

Looks like I WAY undergraded them both.

The super zoom scans made me look at every tiny imperfection and be too harsh. Good exercise though.

 

Same here, this second round I didn't use the super scans. Let's see if I did any better.

Glad i'm not the only one who was thrown off by the AV 57. I thought the stains would drop it to a 6.0 but just couldn't give it a 6 and guessed 6.5

I had the WF at 5.5 initially and dropped it to 5.0.

I've got some 6.0s that look like 9.0s compared to this book...

They weren't stains. They were foxing, which CGC has always been a little bit lenient on (at least compared to comparable stains).

WOW, I thought the stains on the back of the Avengers book would really take it down. I have a book in similar shape with less stains that came back a 6.5.

 

The "stains" are foxing, and it looks like CGC is a bit more lenient on foxing. They tend to hammer actual water stains and such.

I learned that the hard way in the March Madness finals.

I got 6. Hit the AV57, missed on the WF, as I guessed 5.5 on it. And frankly, 5.5 was me hedging my bets at 5.0.

 

I had it at a 5.5 too. I still can't believe it was a 6.5.

I thought the stress/creases and writing-then-erasing on the cover would have brought it down to about that same range as well.

Same here, initially thought 5.5 and then changed my mind and hedged at 5.0;

older books seem like much more lenient; I thought no way 6.5 when saw the result.

Did 5.5 on the WF as well. Later I felt like CGC probably slabbed it at a 7.0 or thereabouts. I was right.

Dang it I missed the 1st round. I graded the books before checking the results had Avengers at 7.0 and WF at 4.5 I sucked!
