Complete All-Star runs in private hands...are there lots of them?

I believe Sir Alfred E. Halperin has the finest known run going, though I could be wrong on that one...

So who is this Sir Alfred E. Halperin bloke? confused-smiley-013.gif

I was re-reading this thread again and was curious. I Googled him with no luck (all that came up was this thread).

Jim Halperin, methinks. tongue.gif

Shrunk nicknamed him "Alfred E" presumably 'cause he's an EC fanatic and Mad collector. Who always wins ebay auctions he bids on.

Got it in one! 27_laughing.gif

Yep, I was just being a smart-aleck, seeing as how Jim's reputedly got one of the finest Mad runs going (I imagine Graint Geissman's collection is nothing to sneeze at, either!). Plus, Halperin kinda seems "Alfred-E-ish" to me...I dunno, kinda mischevious, bit of a maverick/rogue/button-pusher/what-have you. I have never met the guy though, so this is all hearsay and what I've read about him in magazines and such. I have only had one direct transaction with Jim (he bought an EC off me via ebay), and he was a straight shooter all the way. Just being silly. acclaim.gif

Sorry for not responding sooner...life is just steadily approaching normality post-Wilma. Well, sorta. Lines for gas are still two hours long, and the cops say you can't be out on the streets till after 7pm. And grocery shopping is a biitch.

It's always fun to see an entire run of a classic title. Even if they don't know how to list it.

GCD now has synopes for all of the All-Star comics. yay.gif I hope they do this for Detective Comics next.

Here's an excerpt from my favorite #33...

"The opening segment recounts Grundy's origin from All-American Comics #61 (October, 1944) and his imprisonment in an energy bubble by Green Lantern. Without warning, a storm hits and a lightning bolt shatters the green bubble and Grundy is now on the loose, swearing revenge upon the Emerald Crusader. Making his way across country, Grundy heads for JSA HQ. Meanwhile, Green Lantern arrives early for the meeting, when there is a knock on the door. He opens the door and gasps, "You!" Later, when the other members arrive, they find their HQ smashed to pieces and one of their members, G.L., missing from the ranks. Johnny turns on the radio, which blares the warning that Solomon Grundy is on the loose....and the members suddenly believe that Grundy got to HQ first and got Green Lantern, a belief confirmed by a large, muddy footprint on the floor. The radio continues it's report, listing cities where Grundy was seen, so each member picks a city and heads for it [Wonder Woman staying behind] to see if they can get a clue as to what happened to the Master of Light."

Also an interesting indexer note...

"Scripter Gardner Fox reports writing this story originally for All-Star #36. Solomon Grundy's first post-1940's appearance will be in Showcase #55 (March-April, 1965), also written by Fox, and it's 2nd page is a Murphy Anderson re-drawing of Hasen's Page B in All-Star #33. That story picks up right where this story leaves off, ignoring Grundy's appearance in Comic Cavalcade #24. Roy Thomas later reconciles these two conflicting accounts in All-Star Squadron #3 (November, 1981). All notes and synopses added by Craig Delich (Jan. 2006)."

OT - does the Wizard on the cover of #34 remind anybody else of V for Vendetta (Guy Fawkes)? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
