buttock
Picked up one this week: I've been reading a reprint of this to my son lately. He loves it. That's a killer 6.5.
ciorac
What a beautiful book for a 6.5. That is what I keep telling people. I called CGC before I bid so I have a pretty good idea what's going on on the back cover. I just thought this might be my only shot for awhile to get a copy of this book that presented so nicely. If I could have 6.5s like this for all my books, I'd be a happy camper. Bill: I haven't gotten it in hand yet so I haven't cracked it. I do plan on it and it will qualify as the biggest book I've ever cracked once I get the nerve to do it. I've purposefully not read a reprint of this story as I always wanted to read it just the way it was originally presented in 1943. I'm looking forward to it. Gone Phishin'
Alright duck fans... I have a question. I am dieing to get some Barks material in my collection. Without buying a bunch of readers that has Barks covers/stories, is there a book that reprints "The Best of Barks" or anything of that nature? Is there a TPB or HC that would be a good idea for me to pick up? I would rather buy 1 book with lots of stories reprinted, than trying to buy multiple beaters to read. I just want to read some classic DD/US stories told by the master. Where does one start? Thanks
Bronty
The best of barks would be a long book There's the carl barks library, but they get pricey (I think, having never bought one). I think the best thing to do is just buy an entire run of gladstone series one (either uncle scrooge, starting at 210, or wdcs, starting at 511) on ebay. the series one books are plentiful, cheap, have great barks stories and covers, and have the occassional great story by Rosa too

I just dont want to have an extra 20-30 comics in my closet, but who needs clothes anyways So Gladstones first series reprints a lot of Barks' classics? If so, than thanks a bunch Bronty
Bronty
yeah, a lot of the scrooge issues reprint the longer stories and the wdcs the ten pagers. actually, come to think of it, try buy a set of uncle scrooge adventures (series 1 gladstone) too. those reprint a lot of the longer adventure stories from four color, like lost in the andes, etc.
Bronty
you could also buy the series one treasuries.... those are pure barks from what I recall and more of the TPB feel you're going for (although they are mostly single stories).
Scrooge
So Gladstones first series reprints a lot of Barks' classics? If so, than thanks a bunch Bronty Yes, definitely. I can tell what issue reprints what but the best is to buy bulk. When I got the originals last year, I sold my Gladstone versions for a song on eBay, about a buck a piece Someone got a great deal on some fun reading. It's a shame that there is no concerted Barks reprints always available for purchase. I bold the "always available" b/c as Bronty mentions the Barks stories have constantly been reprinted albeit in helter skelter fashion: the hardbound Rainbow editions, the softbound Gladstone collections, the one-shot Gladstone collections, the recent Gemstone two-packs: the original Barks and the follow-up Rosa stories. In the end, as a one book collection so as not to clutter your place, your best shot is The Best of Uncle Scrooge collection by Abbeville Press as far as affordability (since the Uncle Scrooge McDuck: His Life and Times collection by Celestial Arts is more $$$). I don't have the content list here but you should be set with that as your intro to the master.

Bronty
Hey Scrooge, since we're on the topic. Is there an semi user-friendly index of the most recently published rosa stories? I don't know if I am missing any, or not, or when they last came out. I remember that D.U.C.K.S. index giving me kind of a headache when I looked at it years ago, but perhaps its gotten better. Scrooge
I haven't updated my Rosa story list in years either. Maybe I should since I discontinued my subs to both Picsou and Gemstone's Uncle Scrooge over the last year and I must be missing his new releases ... I think they are true TPB's, and are cheap on Amazon Yes, they are and it seems they pack a nice content. You can view the content of Volume 1 here - Volume 1 and Volume 2 here - Volume 2. After reviewing the content, for the price, you should go for them. The advantage in my mind of the Abbeville book I mentioned earlier is that it's an oversize HC, not a trade like the ones you came up with. Otherwise, $$ for donuts for your intro to the Ducks, you are correct, the new Gemstome Greatest Ducktales are a steal. Go for it.
