I don't believe Colan's style is right for superhero comics.

I think a lot of artists, that have drawn Iron Man, make it look like he is wearing a body suit more so than armor. Layton, in my opinion, is the best "armor" artist out there. His Iron Man really looks like he is wearing metal armor. Layton hands down (and he is a great guy to talk with).

It's a lot like what I was saying about Johnny Craig, a style more suited to horror or crime comics. Colan has a very gothic, heavily-shadowed style which has some similarity to that of Graham Ingels, one of the best horror comic artists of all time - certainly if you compare their figurework.

Colan is a great talent. I just don't think his style is right for superheroes.

 

Dr Strange is an exception because of the mystical angle.

You're right. Great on supernatural books like Doctor Strange and Tomb of Dracula but not the right fit for Iron Man or Daredevil.
