The colors on this beauty scan know no equal

Fixed that for you [tongue in cheek! :foryou:] I'm not completely certain - scans vary! [For example, cheetah's scans are invariably undersaturated to my eye.] I suspect that in hand mine might be about the same colors as the Church, but not as bright of course. NB @ricksneatstuff had one in 5.5 posted earlier in the thread that may have had more red, going by that one's scan.  I once just missed out on a low grade copy on Ebay before getting this one, and going from what I recall of the scan from memory, it had the most intense colors I'd ever seen, with reds and yellows that really popped. It literally sold minutes before I searched for it, and had only just been listed. [Yep, one of those stories!] Stupidly, I long since misplaced the copy of that scan. If its colors were 'true', then there is another level, but without having books in hand, one cant really be certain how they stack up against each other. I just messed with my scan in photoshop to take the edge off the colors so the yellows don't pop as much.

17's have very different colors. I have seen a copy where the girl's boots are green.

I would love to do a Planet Board members get together. Everyone bring their books and we could compare.

We would have to do it someplace special, perhaps Mars?

It would have to be Mars - the weather on Venus is terrible this time of year!

So true.  Different scanner, different settings, pictures from different cameras, etc. all impact the colors.  It's really not possible to compare accurately on the boards.  Still, every scan you post shows that your copy has very strong colors!

I was browsing this Planet thread trying to find the post I made of issue 17 color variances. I posted like 4-5 or more different ones but due to a hard drive failure a few years ago I lost the image.

I found a picture comparing Planet 17 scans that you posted in an older Planet Comics thread here:

Rather than a get together where everyone brings their Planet 17 to compare colors, how about you all just send me your Planet 17's and I'll compare the colors

The Toledo copy I used to own of Planet 18 is the best color I have seen on that book.

I don't have my pic and I don't recall who got it but I hope it shows up here because it is pretty and I miss it. :x

I used to own it, bought off of Ebay maybe 15 years ago. Whoever sold it to you likely got it from me!

Personally, I've always preferred the later issues of Planets like Planet 61 and Planet 71myself, but unfortunately for me they always seem to be right up there in price.  :frown:

Noticed that they have the following Planet 70 in tonight's CL auction, except that it's already over $1K or at something like 5X condition guide value:  :whatthe:

Is that the going condition guide multiples for Planets in these mid-grade condition range although I guess this copy here does seem to present nicely in terms of its strong bold colors and nice PQ?  :luhv:

If that's the case, then I just might have to forget about adding any of these later Planets into my personal collection.  :(

Hopefully, unlike most other recent auctions, it's due more to the fact that there's only a lonely 2 Planets in this particular CL auction here tonight and both of them seem to present very nicely in terms of their strong colors and PQ.  :wishluck:

Yes, this is not unusual. A 6.0 sold a year ago on Heritage for $1140. This should be $1300-1500 now I think.

agree with Rick. That cover is the quintessential "science fiction" cover and is very popular among collectors.
