During the last couple years that Fawcett published comics they used metallic inks that actually form crystaline structures that diffract the light. It's quite unusual and gives them a special look.

That is really fascinating! Do you have more information or a source for that? Do you happen to know which issues were involved?

Thanks for the info!

I'm engineer not a printer but I don't know what else would give the inks the intensity that they have, the susceptibility to fading (which I believe is due to oxidizing of the metals) and the diffraction (which requires the formation of crystalline structure during printing). As far as when, I've not pinned down a precise date but give me a day to think about it and I'll try to come up with an approximation (it may well vary from title to title). These are the nearest thing to comic color porn for this chromatically addicted collector.

Front Page #1 from Harvey, 1945

Early title you might miss because of the title. Not seen often. Has Powell "Man In Black" story. Listed as a 6 in Gerber. Probably more like a 7 or even an 8.

Wow! Never seen that book before!

If this is a horror book, it predates Eerie #1 , right?

Pretty sure the contents are crime related with just a horror themed cover.

Can the original poster confirm?

Looks pretty spooky to me!

From inside Front Page #1, 1945, Harvey Comics:

Great Bob Powell "Man In Black" story about Death himself intervening to bring down a terrible Nazi air ace. OPG says it's the MIB's intro and first appearance.

"Tentacles of Terror" by Joe Kubert.

There is a crime/detective story, then a tale of mayhem called "The TNT Assassinations."

If you get a chance to buy one, don't pass it up - upgrades are tough!

Thanks for posting - I've long wondered what the contents of this book were like. While not really a "horror" book throughout, it certainly has a horror cover - and a pretty cool one at that.

I've been trying to slow down with picking up books until I've read through the stack I've already purchased, but it ain't going so well! :insane:

Horrific #2

My first Horrific book, my first book from Dale Roberts, and a purchase from my first trip to Heroes Con this year! With all those firsts, I should of gotten a copy of issue #1 instead, huh?

Here's another demented cover. I havn't read the insides yet but they seem promising from first flip thru. I love the reds and yellows on this thing. Creepy beasts with puppets... :cloud9:

Journey Into Unknown Worlds #23

This was another pickup from HeroesCon and also the first book I've bought from Bob Beerbohm.

I havn't really given Atlas too much attention so far, maybe because they seem like such a mountain of books to collect....(400+ PreCodes according to TTTTT)

This issue really had some great stories in it along with some nice artwork. Even though EC ruled the roost, its so refreshing to see other publisher's takes on the genre, especially when the stories aren't so bogged down with text boxes. I am very much a fan of the "less-is-more" school as it pertains to using text in comics. If the art says it, why be redundant with a text box? Many stories can be read just fine by looking at the art and reading the dialogue balloons...

That cover reminds me very much of the work the Iger shop did for Ajax and Superior. Sounds like a fun issue. (thumbs u

this was the 1st non EC pre code I picked up at the ripe old age of 12! Nice to see it again, nostalgia pangs are all about me. :)

the 1st two are very Iger shop looking, and the switch came with #3 & Don Heck. I really like the 1st two issues.

Good eyes! The first 3 issues of HORRIFIC are filled with Iger Shop stories! The first two HORRIFIC covers are Iger Shop as well, but #3 goes with the classic Don Heck "bullet in the head" cover.
