Anyone here bid on the CGC 6.5 Venus #18 on ebay that just closed? Wow. I sold it for $700 on the boards here and it went for $875!! That's a little nutty. I knew those Venus 17-19 were tough but wow.

 

I was just going to post about that. I was tracking it, but never had a chance to bid. Should have bought it on here when I had the chance!

Although I will say that the little camera logo on the bottom right corner was very selectively placed to cover the unsightly chip that was the main flaw. Don't know if that had anything to do with the sale.

Yeah....I was thinking about snagging it too, and I've already got a copy. If I had known the back cover was so white I'd have jumped on it. One of my favorite comics.GOD BLESS...

You never know what will happen with an auction. If you had sold it at auction back at that time you might have gotten more than $875 or less than $700 or something in between.

lol That looks unintended, but it probably would have sold for slightly less if the chip were obvious. Hence, I started to call for grading notes when buying expensive books.

I bid the thing up to almost $575.00- then chickened out. Never understood why it looked so good for a 6.5- until now . Getting decent copies of that 17-19 run are the toughest. The camera logo can not be placed by the seller as far as I know.

I'm sure it was just a coincidence. :)

 

Saddest part of the story is the call I got from CGC during the prescreen when they told me the chip might come off and I told them to just do their best. :(

Love this cover! I've picked a few of these Black Cats up over the last month as I've put together the start of a nice Pre-Code reader collection.

 

I think that the Harvey books had a lot of nice, err.... I mean horrid covers!

Man, I feel like I have been away forever, even though it has been more like a month! (and none of you fiends even emailed to make sure I was still Undead :baiting: ,lol ) Had a new roof put on the house, remodeled the master bathroom, and am now remodeling the "guest" bathroom. I didn't even buy any horror comics in April, and when you only average one book a week and your ultimate goal is a reader set of every pre-code horror book, that is a big set-back! :(

However, I owe a HUGE "thank you" to our own DANNYBOY for this book: (worship)

At long last, my full run of this series is complete! This is the worst one of the set (grade-wise) but I became sick of waiting for a better one at a decent price.
