And, unless that girl is 9 feet tall, those are impossibly small as well as oddly colored calves.

I love all these cover though. Could someone please explain to me again why the "Golden Age" of comics is remembered first and foremost for superheroes?

Bought this group from 143ksk. I had been looking for the Georgie for a long time. I will try and read the Georgie and Hedy sometime over the next few days. The stories always give me a laugh and the nostalgia shown from this era in Americana is interesting.

Very few comics were published prior to the appearance of Superman in Action 1. After Superman the volume of comics grew enormously and, at it's height, 60% or so of the GA titles were superheroes. Superheroes were the economic foundation of the US comic industry.

 

This is not an opinion on the artistic or cultural merits of Supes but, does, I think, answer your question.
