Is theartistschoice doing a sale again this year?

My problem is not the content of pages, but that there are so many items with no scans.

Or there is a link that leads to nothing ?

Well, you can always do business with reps who don't do such things, and are currently holding a Christmas sale on many pieces of original art, like myself. :)

But don't take my word for it, see for yourself:

I think all reps should limit themselves to a few hundred pages and a handful of creators. It makes inventory updating a breeze for them and it makes my browsing experience as quick and easy as possible.

Seeing the work of almost 80 artists and tens of thousands of pieces of artwork on one site is like a trek through the desert in comparison.

Plus there is no way to search for artwork and many scans are missing.

Except for by artist's name. Then when you're on the page you search the page for the specific title, issue number or character you want using the browser's search feature. That's what I do.

I have to agree that theartistschoice website is not the easiest to navigate by browsing. You can not search as already mentioned. Many scans are not (yet) there, also already mentioned. And I personally feel that there is no simple way to see (on a single separate page perhaps, or by search) what the exact new pages are in the last 30 days or so.

On the obvious plus side, there is work from many great artists to be found there. And credit card payments are accepted now, which makes buying there easier (especially when buying from outside the USA).

Oh, I quite agree with all you said. It's why I'll never work with more than 10 to 12 artists, at most. It just becomes to unwieldy to handle more than that, especially if you are a one-man operation (as I am). Keep enough artists to have regular updates, but not so many that you can't keep up with them. Pretty easy rule of thumb, IMO.

.

I applaud your decision...because, as Clint said perfectly....

Of course it's not much of a test of that theory until you have a chance to rep someone like Romita Jr., or Perez, or Finch and you turn them down because it would be "unwieldy".

It's like having a hard and fast rule to not date more than one supermodel at a time. It only really comes into play if you've got a shot at one supermodel in the first place.

Is this a backhanded slight at the artists I work with now? It certainly is feeling like it. And if I was at my 10-12 artists limit, I wouldn't care who the artist was. I don't take on more than I can handle. That does a disservice to the artist, to the buyer, and to myself. I know it might be hard to believe that there are still people in this hobby with scruples, ethics, and standards, but we do exist. I'm one of them.

Of course not. It's more of a shot at you attempting to elevate your stature at the expense of Spencer's, in a thread that has nothing to do with you or your business.

Oh, so you mean "doing what businesses do." Oh, okay, thanks for the clarification.

I don't see any other reps hopping from thread to thread on this forum, in threads about or by other sellers and reps, to hype their own business.

Probably because their own threads are getting enough attention on their own.

Either that or they can't handle the strain and have self-limited their amount of posts to nothing more than an optimum amount.

I'll take a look at Spencer's site when it goes up, but my problems with it remain the same as ever. It's not updated. There are many pages without scans. Sure, he has some great artists represented, and searching through everything is part of the "hunt", but when you are trying to collect art on a limited budget, it would be kind of nice to actually have any idea if you're going to actually be able to get any of the pages that you are inquiring about or if they were sold two years ago. I mean, I understand that I might be competing against others for the same page and I'm ok with that, but I'd rather not waste my time and planned budget inquiring about pages that were sold a long time ago and just not removed from the site. I am of the opinion it's a huge disservice to both the artists he represents and those trying to buy from the page.

I mean no disrespect to Spencer, as he's always been good to me when I've bought art from him, but I find I'm less and less excited about these sales every year because of the lack of updates to his site.

Hrm. I see all these posts about 'theartistschoice' website being down. But I can access the site just fine ?

I'm still getting this:

NOTE: The Artist's Choice will be closed until Wednesday, December 14, 2016

To see the rest of the website, you may either click here or this page will be redirected in

Ah! I see what you mean now: A 'The Shop Is Closed Right Now' message, and not that you cannot browse the website. I thought you meant that the website is technically not accessible (getting a blank page, a '404' error, server/page not found, etc.)

If you click on the 'click here' part of that message, you are directed to the regular site, which is now here: http://www.theartistschoice.com/index_1.html
