According to the latest box office reports from Variety, Spider-Man: Far From Home good a boost from the extended cut released in theaters this weekend, as it's projected to earn about $6 million.

But as for the Sony and Disney stand off, it doesn't look to be abating anytime soon and fans should start getting used to the loss of Spider-Man in the MCU.

Marvel still has distribution rights for Phase 3 and Infinity Saga sets, right?

Sony Pictures Releasing is the distributor for Spider-Man: Far From Home and Homecoming. All other films would fall under the Infinity Saga MCU umbrella.

I still don't know how this is going to work for Sony.

1. They cant reference the fact that Peter (and 1/2 of humanity) disappeared for 5 years. That would be the single greatest event in human history, it would define the world in a ways that make ww2 seem small. It would effect every single aspect of day to day life as it defined much of the last movie and Spider-man personally. How in the world do they continue this character without that narrative?

2. Everything about Peter is tied to his love/admiration of his mentor Tony Stark. His costume, his adventures, all of it is tied to a MCU owned entity. How can they get around that in their next movie?

3. The last thing we saw of Spider-man he was being accused of killing Mysterio and causing the catastrophe in London by using Stark Tech like some world conquering villain. The entire world knows his identity now and that he is using Stark gear like a terrorist. How can they get around this in a new movie since its so completely tied to licenses they aren't allowed to use?

Doesn't that all mean that whatever Sony makes will have to be yet ANOTHER complete reboot, maybe without Holland? It sort of has to doesn't it? If so, it wont be the same. It wont be the brand they were hoping to pull back into their fold. They might as well just pull Toby or Andrew Garfield out of the retirement home and tell em to suit up.

Allegedly to reasonably "write him out" of the MCU.

I'd rather they kill him off and re-cast a new Spider-Man for the Sonyverse than to use the same actor as in the MCU.

Any source for that? I've heard only that Sony isn't motivated to do a long-term deal.

Redbox added this one yesterday, so it was a $2.17 rental last night.  Once again, Marvel spends years and hundreds of millions in order to make more hundreds of millions in return and I contribute $2.17 on a Blu-ray rental.

I'd say I'm always winning these scenarios.  :kidaround:

No sources - just mass speculation disseminated from Kevin Feige comments.

Now that the story has come out that it was Tom Holland himself who was integral in getting both sides back to the table to make a deal... this pretty paper thin interpretation of some vague words from Kevin Feige... now seems even less likely.  A more honest interpretation seems to be that Holland got both sides to act (somewhat) like grownups and realize how much money they were leaving on the table, not to mention how badly they were disappointing their fans, and get an extension done.  Feige then saying that Spidey can "live in both universes" could mean a lot of different things, but there's absolutely no reason to assume it means that it's a planned ending.  In fact, to be honest, I think it's more likely to mean that there's going to be a planned connection/crossover between the two worlds... perhaps via the multiverse concept or something else.  But I feel like it's very reasonable to assume that as long as Holland is willing to play the character, that character will be tied to the MCU.
