So... Anyone going to talk about Black #3?

Comics are soooooooo political nowadays......

Pass.

I don't mind the politics and agendas as long as the presentation is good and the creators don't just bludgeon me in the head with it.

Monstress deals with racism but it's still a very good fantasy read.

Yea, I will buy that,

Ha, yeah, I love it. Never even heard of this series, now it's on my radar. So I guess something they're doing is working!

I'm not American and I don't see myself as right-leaning, but this kind of thing is why politics and discussion in general is screwed today. I don't see anything productive coming from such obvious baity content. It's why things usually always devolve into name-calling etc online. Maybe it is just online that we've got such polar opposites and that's why this happens, but I find it easier to slip into blissful ignorance than engage with this stuff.

The trick is to never have a dissenting opinion from anyone on anything. And watch out if the "thing" in question is racially charged. You're then one comment away from being ignorant, part of a "white out", racist... who knows what else?

I mean, clearly, the artist that decided to swap in a certain word on that variant cover is only concerned with fighting the good fight... somehow. That really raised awareness... I guess. My entire worldview is changed... is something no one is likely to say after seeing that variant.

The cover is clearly a little history on the labelling of Blacks in America. Every single statistic in existence shows that the relationship between America and the Black community is one of systemic racism. Levels of poverty, being pulled over while driving, being shot while unarmed, etc. This cover is a dissenting opinion because it is calling out hegemony. In one cover the entire history of African American oppression in Amerika is laid out. The fact that is making some people uncomfortable suggests it is working. That is what happens when hegemony is challenged.

lol

Embarrassed for the creators is a better description for how this cover makes me feel.

I don't need a lazy comic book cover designed to sell more copies to inform me of America's social ills.

It is great that you hold such deep empathic feelings towards others.

Again, no one here has asked my stance on any actual issue - those of you that have a problem with my feelings about the cover only know that (and what you think you can imply from that).

This cover is crass in my opinion, and not much anyone has said has changed that - certainly not the implied attacks sent my way.

I am serious about the empathy. I laud it anytime it appears. It is very much missing in today's world. I apologize for drawing conclusions based on your opinions about the cover.

The below cover, no problems.

The variant, I have a lot of issues with.

This is the only BM book I have had any real interest in up to this point.

Search for the uncensored version.

Ah. Art is the same so didn't really notice the difference at first glance. Honestly though, given the goal of a lot of media is for shock value, the uncensored cover doesn't really strike me as shocking anymore.

I don't find it shocking either.

Anyway, I don't want to spend a bunch more cycles on this, so lets just say I strongly dislike it for a number of reasons.
