But spoiler tags around potentially offensive images with a "NSFW" tag might help people that otherwise might not know what the images are avoid the images.

^ I agree with this...makes a lot of sense as a solution.

I mean, it's CGC's site and if Dre pays to get books graded and slabbed by CGC and they happily accept his money, he should be allowed to sell those same books on the site if he's not violating any of the rules or guidelines.

^ There are a few problems here. First and foremost...it's a privilege, not a right, for any of us to be able to sell anything here on this site. Further, it is not incongruous for CGC to be willing to slab a potentially offensive image for you to personally and privately enjoy, while at the same time object to the public display of that image on their website. Finally, display of potentially vulgur/offensive images (which is an inherently subjective determination, to be determined by the admins) is indeed an explicit violation of the guidelines/terms of use of the site.

Yea we all are supposed to be over 18 to be in this forum ...

again, incorrect. 18 to have an account and post.

anyone with a computer/internet access can view the forum.

thus anyone of any age can see BBum's sales thread.

So what you guys are saying - Dre's sales threads are attracting a LOT of teenage boys to start collecting comics... stimulating the economic growth of comics. hm

while I am not a fan of censorship, I do believe in discretion and common sense.

The fact that Beachbum attempted to censor the image(s) in the beginning shows that he felt some discretion was needed. He did not do enough for the mods and the sales thread was pulled (temporarily) and later put back without the images but the book is available for purchase (I believe)

While the image may offend some and not others is a matter of opinion of which everyone is entitled to one.

However someone said this before, this board is their site(CGC) they make up the rules. It's not about right/wrong or what we perceive it to be, but what the mods decide and at their discretion.

same thing applies to strikes, why some get them and others don't, why some sales threads are moved to mixed while others are not etc. while some posts get poofed and some stay.

If CGC slabs it...there should be zero issue with posting it to this site.

Don't like boobies on your site?

No problem.

Don't encapsulate books with boobies on the cover.

I guess you don't see the difference between the two, and there is a difference.

One the other hand, if CGC posted an image of the uncensored cover to their image gallery, then I can see a double standard.

So to clear the air -

I've been a member of the boards for about six years now & selling almost as long here as well. I've always had a great selection of fine wines and cheeses for sale.

When Zenescope starting releasing the topless covers years ago I asked Mod(s) what was acceptable to post. I was told to black out nipples or other naughty bits and that's how I've been handling them in my sales thread since then. If I think there's something a little more naughty I black that out as well.

I can't remember ever being notified by a MOD in the past few years to change or remove an image. In my Holiday Sales thread last December there was an EBAS Notti & Nyce Holiday cover that was a bit scandalous and caused some public discussion. I even proactively posted in that thread that if the image was too much that a MOD was free to remove it. It stayed up, and people's dissenting comments were removed.

Apparently there was a MOD discussion over the current sales thread - let me just say again during the whole process before the thread was pulled I was never notified or asked to remove the images which I gladly would have done.

I understand that the candle wax cover was considered over the top, that's why I blacked out the candle wax even though there was no nudity underneath it. But to be clear I was operating under the same guidelines I was given. They even considered the fully clothed version too risque so that image is gone as well. More blacking out of any of the images would not have saved them.

I sell a wide variety of stuff from different publishers. These covers are popular, my customers want them, and that's why I sell them. The problem is EBAS and other artists keep wanting to push the envelope and this is the fallout.

After a PM conversation going forward with my sales threads I will be censoring more or I will be linking out the images with a "NSFW" warning on any item that is topless or considered scandalous so I don't get into anymore hot water.

To be clear before yesterday I can't recall ever been warned by PM by any MOD to stop my posting behavior so yesterday's ruckus with no heads up was a bit of a surprise... but I understand this is a public website with a lot of eyes on it. I appreciate the moderator's and everyone else's opinions here.

The moderators are inconsistent and generally poor on communication and have been for about a year now. Shame.

American society has always been more permissive and tolerant of violence than they have been of sexuality.

That is totally untrue and many people mistakenly repeat the oft-quoted canard.

You go murder someone and you will likely get caught and either get life or go on death row. Attempted murder, manslaughter, assault with a weapon, etc, all carry stiff sentences and even basic assault can get you jail time.

An adult walks down the street naked or make an amateur porn video and the most you might get is a fine or cited for civil disobedience. Shoot, up here ladies can sunbath naked and walk down the street topless.

I think what you might be trying to say is that American society has always been more permissive and tolerant of FICTIONAL DEPICTIONS of violence than they have been of FICTIONAL DEPICTIONS of sexuality.

The notion that because CGC slabs these ridiculous covers that posting them on their website is somehow acceptable is lunacy. Trojan sells condoms, they don't want action shots of them in use on their website.

Also, the perennial comparison of inappropriate posting of sexual images, which are usually exploiting females in some manner, to Hitler or any other historical time period is tired.
