Well said, Pat!  By comparison, I've got nothing on you when it comes to finding the good stuff!

I have 3 regrets that stand out:

Sold a USA #7 blue label 2.5

Sold the D Copy of Daring Comics #11 CGC blue 9.4.  Got $3500 for it and used the money to pay taxes.

Sold USA #8 in CGC blue 4.0 for $825.  This one really hurts.

I got back into collecting in 1992 after about 8 years of inactivity. I am a child of the Bronze Age, but for reasons I can't really recall now I quickly became consumed with Timelys.

I've always been a perfectionist condition nut, so for about 6 years I bought the nicest ones I could find, mostly Caps, but I also had several D copies including All Winners 13 and Marvel Mystery 74. I was in grad school at the time, living in a closet paying $125 a month in rent and scraping together $400 for my next Timely fix.

Around 1998, again for reasons I can't really recall, I decided to get out of GA and focus on the bronze DCs that were really my first love. I sold everything, probably eking out a small profit.

To this day it sticks in my craw, not only that I sold out, but that I did it a year before CGC. All Winners 13 D copy, at least 9.4,/9.6 sold for $400. Ugh.

And worst of all, I sold to VIA!

Heck, I've sold books here on the boards that went (different copy/same title-issue if you know what I mean) for hundreds more on eBay months later.  I've also sold books buyers pressed that gained +1.5 grades.  There are regrets, but I've had winners too.  No major regrets (except selling the whole 'ole man's collection back in about '84) as I fell I'm continuously evolving the collection.

EDIT. After reading all the posts on this thread, I have no regrets...

My biggest regret is that I failed to get off with Laura Pavitt when I was a young deluded 20 something back in the day Image result for sad gif zooey (that's what she looked like by the way).

On a more topical front, selling these two just before they wen't 'silly' has given me the occasional pause for 'what if' style reflection if I'm brutally honest:

Many regrets over the past 30 years, but wish I had back my Phantom Lady #17 9.0,  Marvel Comics #1 9.0 R and Captain America Comics #1 9.2 Slight R. I could probably name a 100 more!

Your pool though probably gave your family many lifetime long great memories,so that would be a plus.

This goes to show though how undervalued the keys were. I don't think anyone expected how much new interest Hollywood would bring to the keys with movies and tv shows.

Going forward I see the Hollywood influenced keys continue to get big.

This an amazing hobby were the keys get million dollar movies based on them.

There is really no other hobby like it.

Only maybe video game keys in the future might compete.

Stamps, coins, and lionel trains wish they had big hollywood movies made about their keys.

Here's a regret story and a near-regret story that illustrates that for every comic regret, there's an equal and opposite comic triumph.

My dad bought both these books off the rack and I sold the AS8 on ebay about 8-10 years ago for $1800.  Before fees.  It's beat, but it's complete.  The JIM 1, well a few years ago I was asking $1075 and the other guy wouldn't budge off of $1050 so the deal didn't happen.  Phew.  Not that it totally made up for it...but better than nothing.  It's graded as 6.5 but I still think it looks every bit the 8.0.
