I'm decidedly old-school and non-functional when it comes to record keeping.

When I buy stuff and receive it in the post, I put it in a running accountant's ledger by date, title, issue # and cost.  Impossible to find anything, unless I can remember an approximate time when I bought something, which is getting more and more difficult to recall.  I have about six or more or so of these books, going back 30-35 years or more.

I only manage to inventory with grades about every 3-6 months when I put books away in the comic cavern.  Back when Mike Richardson had a comic shop in Bend, Oregon, in the early 80s I bought inventory sheets from him that had 320 blocks + on them.  I mostly use those for the longer titles.  I use word documents for the shorter titles, sorted alphabetically and by publisher, but I keep losing stuff due to computer failures and stuff.  I still have a few titles/publishers that are just on note paper.

Let the laughter and insults commence. :whee:

I write a lot in all caps, due to the comic book influence.  It drove my teachers bonkers. :cloud9:

Good. I like it when people write all in caps. Makes it LOOK LIKE THEIR SHOUTING :cloud9:

I dug out some of my old compooter records earlier to help try to answer a Canadian Price Variant question in another thread. Found some other old records I used to keep in relation to variants etc. Loads of the stuff. It occurs to me now that I used to take this stuff really seriously and that I've forgotten so much of it.

Not sure what I was trying to achieve here, or indeed whether any of it is even accurate:

2.PNG.10e204e1617fe0aac67c072b55e38566.PNG

Why anyone would even care what types of inserts existed in different ASM types escapes me now. Seems I did:

But I do like these. I used to make stickers for the fronts of my Comic Boxes. There were many versions as I recall now, some of them very elaborate. These were the last ones I used - quite basic, but they looked pretty:

And here are some of the tables I used in my little book to remind me of what existed etc:

I bought Microsoft 365 so I keep my list on the cloud and I can access it with my Mac, iPad, or iPhone. These screenshots are for my Mars Attacks cards but you get the point. Let's me track lots of stats using excels built in functions. One thing I really like to track is average price I pay per card based on the grade. Helps me decide if something is priced high, low, or close to average

Very clever, but what else would one expect from the Batman. I do like the use of "high desire" too. Excellent :golfclap:

Definitely nut-job material to compile.

However, I thoroughly enjoy looking at this stuff.

One of the other things I used to do was make sticky labels for my comics. Any excuse really. The label wasn't on the comic of course, but on the inner mylar (I used to use two).

I had stickers for printing errors....

I used to put little oval stickers on books I bought as back issues with the price I paid.  I quickly gave that up.

I'm always amazed at the amount of minutiae some folks put into their collections.

I recall having some time to obsess over things, but never THAT much time to obsess over things..., lol

Oh, hang on. Wrong thread. Sorry liz.

Yes, the minutiae as you call it can be as fun as the books themselves and I do miss it. All I have now are L Miller labels. Still, that'll do for now until I win the lottery and start all over again.

Hang on, the wife just heard that, gotta go!

Really like the stickers M&I, especially the multiple cover notations -- great way to illustrate what makes it special without having to open the book up and thumb through it.

Hey @Marwood & I.  I'm very impressed with everything you do with your collection.  The stickers you use on the Mylar are awesome.  I wish I had the organization and creativity to do those things.

Cheers guys. Sticky labels are cool.... Don't let anyone tell you otherwise :headbang:
