n2wdw
Dastardly Bondage, a Leggy GGA and My 2018 Con Schedule A few scattered thoughts in this post .... I've always found this WW chilling. It qualifies as Dastardly Bondage IMHO. I've been looking for a decent copy of Abbott and Costello #20 for over a year. Finally one appeared on eBay, for a reasonable price, but also offering Best Offer. Probably I should have taken it immediately, but I can't resist Best Offer (cause I'm cheap), so I threw out an offer. Luckily no one snuck in with a BIN, so I won it. I'm excited about my 2018 con schedule! I'm going to my first Emerald Con! Also, I'm returning to SDCC. I only managed to get Thursday and Sunday tickets, but that's perfect as it'll be a family vacation so it will be good to have free days. Now I just have to get a hotel, which is harder than getting the freaking tickets (ugh!).

The GCD doesn't have the lack of red this one does. Good luck with the Con schedule. I loved San Diego, but as the years rolled on we simply just grew apart. So, I think of it as a family vacation with a few hours at a comic con. From just a comics point of view, I'm more looking forward to Emerald City. Pretty excited to go to an actual comic book convention with actual comic books...unlike Phoenix comicon where I have not seen a single GA book in the last 5 years. This how should be off the hook. Was talking to a friend about it at the flea market yesterday. He mentioned that because the Berkley Con is a week before and the warm weather we are expecting, that There are a lot of collectors and dealers traveling out here for the show. My friend picked up a 130 long box collection from an older collector in the area and will be bring a lot of them to Terry's show. You WILL see lots of GA books at this show... n2wdw
I can't go to Terry's show. I live on the east coast and the show's across the country on a Sunday -- I can't make it work family and work-wise. I was also dealt a blow today as, because of work, I might not be able to go to Emerald City. This, after I bought tickets and flights. Ugh! I think I cursed myself because I submitted this modern trash to CGC. I thought it would go along with my UC 7, but I think the comic gods are pissed at me. To add insult to injury, the freaking book came back 9.6 instead of 9.8. Hutch88
n2wdw
Recent GGA Buys and Emerald City Dilemma I won these comics off eBay recently. Regarding Emerald City, I mentioned how I might not be able to go due to work. I planned to go only Thursday and Friday, and take the red-eye back Friday night so I'm back home in VA around 630am Saturday morning. After I bought the con tickets and flight, my work announces an off-site that starts Saturday morning. So, the question is, can I hustle from the airport to the off-site in time so I'm not late (or too late)? Problem is, my work hasn't picked a venue yet for the off-site, so I don't know how long the drive will be. Major bummer if I have to miss the con as I've always wanted to go to EC. I wanted a 9.8 for the WW 81, but the 9.6 popped up on eBay at a price that was too good to pass up. I figure if I ever get a 9.8 upgrade I'll be able to get my money back on the 9.6. Also got this matching print of WW 81: Edited December 20, 2017 by n2wdw
Robot Man
9.6 / 9.8 what's the difference? Keep the 9.6 and spend your money on GA instead it's a beauty! Oh, and on the EC show? Just call in sick, somethings are just way important than work

For what it's worth, a lot of the redeyes from here to the east coast tend to land early, especially if the wind is right! That' a great pickup on the WW81 print! Popular Post n2wdw
State of My Matt Baker Collection Here's my year end report on my Matt Baker collection. I'm trying to get a copy of every comic where Baker did the cover. Since this is a cover collection, I'm looking for well presenting copies (see Teenage Romances 39 below -- only 1.5 but it was good enough for me). High grade isn't a priority and not really possible in any case given the high (and rising) prices for Baker. I don't mind restoration, but I do require complete copies. In my list there are 294 such comics. At the moment I have 148. So, I'm just over half there, but I've pretty much got all the easy ones so it'll only get harder from here. 50 are graded and 98 ungraded. The total I've spent so far is $23,930, or an average of $162 per comic. The most I've spent is $2352 and the least $4. Of the graded ones, I've spent an average of $75 per point. After some starts and stops, the only Bakers I send in for grading are (1) truly classic covers, like TAR 32 below; (2) higher grade copies I'm able to get -- for me, higher grade would mean 6.0 or above; and (3) Baker's full cover "romantic" covers that have little lettering, like Going Steady 14 below. Here are some of my pickups in 2017. Edited January 1, 2018 by n2wdw Ricksneatstuff, jimjum12, aardvark88 and 2 others 4
