Popular Post Dick Pontoon
As someone who had to deal with both my mom’s and my father-in-law’s estates, as much as I love my comics and related objects, I have zero intention of leaving piles of stuff behind for my heirs to deal with. It's tough enough when a loved one passes. namisgr, Readcomix, thehumantorch and 3 others 5

I think I'm going to try and find 1,000 copies of Alf comics and sell everything else. lordbyroncomics

I think that drives my point home, and would say Wizard magazine was the driving force behind a lot of HOT books back then as @Aweandlorder mentioned, before the real internet craze we are in today. I think it's funny to see which books were "hot" prior to being in Wizard's Hot List each month and those that became hot afterwards. We bash on people for coming in the Hot on E-Bay threads and tying to bump up certain books they own but I'd think Wizard was just one big advertisement for books they wanted to see jump in prices. What I found absolutely hilarious was when a supposedly 'red hot hot" book would finished up at the top of Wizard's Hot List for the month with a big price tag, only for the book not to have hit the newsstand because it had ended up being delayed as it did not meet either its publishing deadline or its shipping deadline. Happened on quite a few occasions, if I remember correctly.

Yes indeed, as who would have ever thought they would be worth multiples of what we had paid for them back in the day. Especially when we used to be told that we would be lucky to see only fractions to guide for our books when it came time to sell our collection. And yet if today's CC auction is any indication at all, they are actually often being sold at huge multiples to condition guide, whether they are in low grade, mid grade, or dare we say sometimes even in restored condition. Still have my folks, but other family members have passed & some were not well-organized & it was a nightmare dealing with ‘the stuff.’ Dealing with that, plus children & other family members clearly not having the interest level to carry on the collecting bug led to a ‘cash out’ plan instead of a ‘die with it & let them deal with it’ philosophy. But I’m too ingrained into collecting to just drop comics all together. I love old books and finding a deal. I’ll always be looking for sweet comics or comic-related stuff to some degree! djzombi, Dark Knight and Krismusic
