There has been little recent news about Morbius, despite the release date being less than three months away now, besides small snippets being released by the cast. Leto himself recently said that the movie would mark the start of an expanding Spider-Man movie universe, teasing the hero himself might eventually appear alongside a rouge's gallery of villains from the Sony movies. Morbius will tell the origin story of the character dubbed the living vampire. The cast will include Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris, and Michael Keaton in an appearance many suspect will see him reprising the role of Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Leto has revealed more about the movie to Variety in a recent podcast episode, teasing that the film will take a different approach from most superhero movies. Looking ahead to the movie's release, Leto says besides being "big and fun," Morbius is also quite scary, something he believes is a departure from most films in the genre. The actor also teases that it's a "Jekyll and Hyde" story, hinting at the transformation his character goes through, from scientist to vampire. You can read his full comments from the podcast below:

"[Morbius is] a Jekyll and Hyde story that’s just big and fun, and sometimes is a little scary, which is, I think, different for that genre. And I’m excited about it. That should be a big, fun popcorn movie."

You'll have to wait a bit longer to see Michael Morbius grace the silver screen. Monday afternoon, Sony announced it was removing Morbius from its March date. Instead, the Jared Leto vehicle will now enter theaters on October 8th. The movie was initially set to hit theaters last July before being bumped back due to the ongoing global pandemic. Now, it will arrive in theaters a full 15 months after its original release date.

This story is developing...

It used to be obvious which movies were dogs when they got dropped in January or Feb. But now the Pandemic has made it much harder lol

Studios don't want to commit to releases for their big budget films now so they will keep pushing things back. Or until they make a good enough deal with a streamer. Next thing you know Morbius will be released in 2024 after they do reshoots and edits and release it as an entire Season One on Netflix. They have so much money involved in these films but all their forecasting keeps telling them that theaters still won't be open and people still won't be going to those that are. So they keep pushing things back. But things aren't going to return to the way they were for a very long time and they might never return to the way they were. The entire movie industry may have changed for good. In the meantime you've got this weird purgatory-like state for films that were already completed. Studios don't want to face these huge losses yet so they'll keep wishing things away and put things on the books for 2022. Even Black Widow isn't safe. It's bad news all around. Maybe those behind Godzilla vs Kong have the right idea moving it forward. At some point it isn't going to matter how good these movies are. When they finally get released everything about it is going to feel anti-climactic.

From the trailer, Morbius has a serious New Mutants vibe.

Not sure how this one is going to go over without a Spider-Man appearance. It could play out as yet another Underworld film with the vampire hiding behind the scenes as humanity's protector.

coffin lid is stuck.  "long awaited" lol

The long awaited Marvel vampire movie Morbius will go a week later on Jan. 28, 2022 instead of Jan. 21. Rather than staying alone on Jan. 21 where there is no wide entry competition, Sony has decided to go head-to-head with Universal/Blumhouse’s Scott Derrickson-directed horror film The Black Phone on its new date.

One-week delay. Interesting.

It feels like this was filmed so long ago, like a lost piece of film history, finally unearthed.

Many of these films due to the pandemic. It's crazy.

Multiple sources say that Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage could be delayed to January 21, 2022.

According to Variety, several inside sources have revealed that the much-delayed, highly-anticipated Venom sequel will leave 2021 entirely, even as studios wrestle with putting movies exclusively in theaters. Variety says this is likely, but given the uncertainties around COVID-19 things are still up in the air.

Sony has not made any official confirmation, and the report indicates that the company will wait until after the annual CinemaCon exhibition before making an announcement if any.

If the delay does happen, Venom's 2022 January release date is currently occupied by the Jared Leto movie Morbius, which will likely shift dates once Venom moves into its spot.
