90sChild
Has CGC ever given a useful explanation of what qualifies a 10.0 above a 9.9 or quite frankly why either is better than 9.8? Edited January 2, 2018 by 90sChild

Mercury Man
I find the 9.8 to 9.9 thing asinine. And in that sense, I find the 9.9 to 10.0 asinine. I mean there is no 8.9 or 7.9. I think they could have made just about everyone's life a little easier by sticking to a 1 thru 10 scale, no 'point' what-evers. Because I'd love to have a CGC 10 for a bunch of my CGC 9.6 books.

Good question but I think it would be a 9.0. I think what is today's 9.8 or 9.9 would be a 10. Because you can't tell me there is not 1 single flaw you can nitpick on a 10. I think they over-complicated with the .5's, .6's etc.

A book can have no flaws and still get a 9.8 . To get a 9.9/10.0 the book needs some extraordinary qualities. 4 razor sharp corners, perfect staple placement, etc.

I think CGC, given their position and place in the industry, could have simplified things overall. As for your comment above, don't pretend to know what I do and 'don't understand' about the grading scale. I have been in this hobby a long time. I am sorry you don't understand how to participate in 'free thought', without being immature.
