Panelfan1
I was having a discussion with a fellow collector the other day. He's looking to sell a great piece of art - main reason? TOO Big. (It's 18x24 if you must know) So I had to laugh because - I've had the same issue and sold off some pieces I liked because they were on an oversized board. Wondering how folks here feel about collecting oversized art? Do you love it more? Have you ever got rid of pieces due to size? Any other thoughts? Pete Marino
Large size makes me think and make sure it's a "wall hanger" if it won't comfortably fit into a portfolio, it goes up somewhere in the house, where I know it'll be safe.
Popular Post ESeffinga
Had a chuckle at the 18" x 24" Big art, you say? In all seriousness, I actually have had to sell art that was larger than I was told it was, simply because the walls of the house are so intensely curated, that the size of a piece can be criticl for me to fit it on the wall without over-cluttering the space to my tastes. So yeah, I actually have sold a couple things because they were "larger than advertised." It's pretty rare though. I try to go into every purchase knowing exactly what I'm going to do with work. And yes, 11" x 17" are easier because they can go in an Itoya, which I try desperately not to do unless it feels absolutely necessary. Collector gene and all. -e. JadeGiant
Definitely a consideration. Larger art is not usually a problem if I really like the piece. I have accumulated enough DPS art that I need a new portfolio but I am not selling them off as I like the art quite a bit. My preferred art size is 11x17 and that’s pretty much all I commission at so I have passed on many artists that only work smaller. I am much more likely to pass on something that is TOO small than a piece that is TOO large.
Bronty
I think the answer to the question depends on which medium you primarily collect. The guys that mainly just do comic art are going to like 11 by 17 because it’s a reasonable size for a drawing. It’s too small for a satisfying painting though, so if you like paintings, you’re going to like bigger sizes. 30 by 20 is generally my favourite size for the painted illustrations I collect. Popular Post NinjaSealed
The biggest problem with comic art for me is most of it is just way too small. So no, too big is not an issue. Too small is a huge issue and I often sell pieces because they are very underwhelming in person. The Voord
You can buy Itoya portfolios for the larger twice-up pages. I like my artworks the way I like my beers . . . large.
malvin
Yeah, large art has its positives but it bugs me a bit too. I don't frame up my pieces and having all my 11x17 in one pile, 13x19 in another, and extra large one in yet another is annoying. It's most annoying when its the same series and for some inexplicable reason, the pages are different sizes so they are stored in different places. PhilipB2k17
Ironically, Felix just posted a photo showing how large all of the packed up Paul Pope art he's shipping out is compared to the regular-sized 11x17 art.

The wow factor per dollar is NOT there. However, there is something nice about having an entire collection uniform and fitting into a few tiny little portfolios. Anyone that collects paintings needs a spare room or a storage unit.
adamstrange
I have 1.5x art, twice up and a couple that are even bigger. I only collect 1.5x art when there is no other option as I think bigger is better.
