Only six graded copies.  I like that 3.5! B|

So I'm trying to see how many UKPV's of Flash Gordon have been graded.  Am I to assume that no one has sent in any UKPV Flash Gordon books?!!  I don't see any category in the census for these.

If there was one it would sit under the relevant King cents entry. Non-Marvel UKPV submissions to CGC are rare Yoz. You could probably fit every potential submitter on Earth into a phone box. That already had an elephant in it.

I think you slightly underestimate the size of the group.  Or overestimate the size of the phone box.  Unless you’re talking about one of those weird British police phone boxes…

I've been in a few phone boxes that smelled as if they'd had an elephant in them.:whatthe:

It worked on both levels, didn't it.

@valiantman, sorry to summon you like a data slave, but can you check the CGC census to see how many UK Price Variants are recorded for:

  • Archie
  • Charlton
  • Dell
  • Gold Key
  • King

Is that possible?

Sorry if I've asked you before - I do recall something about Hulk showing up on any UK search, or something like that, but is that something you can do for us? Charlton and Dell will likely have a handful but I'm going for 'sod all' for the other three :wishluck:

I did a few searches myself using Greg's software and unless I'm doing it wrong there are miniscule numbers for UKPVs across the little five publishers as expected.

http://cgcdata.com/cgc/

You need to search a variety of terms like 'edition', 'kingdom' and 'variant' to stand any chance of finding them and then filter out the other variations. CGC used to label UKPVs as 'UK Editions' remember, until some wally harangued them into using something else.

'UK' on its own brings up too many additional books I found. Here are the Charlton results for those three terms - less than 20 books if this is all of them.

edition.thumb.PNG.60653984c094e67be5796fa75ee1910e.PNG

kingdom.thumb.PNG.da1dfb47753c5ae28b63ca86f8742c65.PNG

variant.thumb.PNG.5f6baba295ac23558d8f94da5d99d082.PNG

I didn't find much for Gold Key and nothing for King and Archie. Not one submission. There could be some that haven't been identified as UK copies of course though, I've seen a few of those for Charlton.

Maybe Greg will surprise us with some superior interrogation results....

Looking for country = United Kingdom or variant = U.K. Edition or U.K. Price Variant, I get...

Charlton = 10 books, 13 total submissions

Dell = 38 books, 45 total submissions

Nothing for Archie, Gold Key, or King

Thanks Greg. There are a couple of Gold Keys hiding in there - these two come up under the 'variant' search term:

Capture.thumb.PNG.23563b025644c5ba927d8a92384555ab.PNG

Quite a few of the pre-1960 Dell entries that I found seem to be incorrect - they are recorded as 'UK Price Variants' when they are reprints or UK only publications - example below:

Capture.PNG.c24fee763bfa69f09a9c47b40332492c.PNG

If those entries are in your 38 book total then that number will come down a bit.

Overall, non-Marvel UKPV submissions clearly aren't a thing. Which is no surprise.

Cheers. Six of those have been incorrectly classified as UKPVs, and the jury is out on the Beatles. The book, not the band. Someone clearly loved their Rin Tin Tin run!

Morning :)

While we wait to see if Yozzer @Yorick will ever get his 10d Flashes on the CEEGEECEE census, here's a nice write up on the Phantom UKPVs which I brought to the site owner's attention the other week:

https://thephantom.fan/comics/king-comics-uk-editions/

Capture.thumb.PNG.f0518d02cb81258a3b5f38a6a1b45d34.PNG

Nicely done Frank, if you're out there reading this :headbang:

It's a cool site overall, and well worth a look. I especially like this page:

https://thephantom.fan/books/the-king-comics-reading-library-supplementary-reading-program/

That's my kind of stuff.

We all like a bit of Phantom, don't we. Especially when they teach us how to read :)
