See this post: http://boards.collectors-society.com/sho...part=1&vc=1 for past problems with him.

He bought the following two books:

ASM 101 CGC 7.0, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

ASM 101 CGC 7.5, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

And is selling the following two books:

ASM 101 9.0, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32739&item=6542294144

ASM 101 9.2, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32739&item=6542294170

Didn't even bother to change the picture for his two auctions, they both look to be the CGC 7.5.

How about some more.

Here, he's selling a Spidey 23 as a 9.4: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32739&item=6542295843

Here, he just won one, a 7.5: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6537569921

Selling a Spidey 27 as a 9.2: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32739&item=6542295486

Just won one off of Ewart, a 8.5: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6536909791

Cap 100, an 8.5!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32729&item=6542298748

That....used to be a 6.5 =( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6537796151

I could go on forever, there are more.

The ASM 101 at least does not appear to be the same book.

The CGC'd 7.0 copy seems to have something going on with the top staple and a spine stress on the bottom staple.

The "9.0" seems to have neither.

oh, i see, the two raws are both the pictures of the 7.5, my bad. yup, could all be the same book.

maybe he disagrees with CGC's grading? of course, the "my daddy's books" story is nonsense, and a bad lie at that given that you can look at his bidding history.

The two Cap 100's are undoubtedly the same. I have nothing against cracking a slab and disagreeing with CGC's grade, but I doubt this seller has good intentions in mind, especially with the lies about his Daddy's books.

yes, it's scuzzy, but what is ebay to do about it? grading is subjective, CGC isn't the law of the land, etc. they aren't even perfectly consistent.

sort of like buying an antique appraised at $500, getting it reappraised at $1000 and saying in your auction "appraised at $1000"

finally, does he even make any money doing this? i guess his old auctions will tell you, but most of the links you show have him losing money (albeit with days left in the auction). selling raw alleged "high grade" SA ASMs with teeny tiny scans is a good way to get buyers who will bid with an "assumed ebay overgrade" in mind.

I do not believe grading is subjective enough to have a third party grading service opinion repeatedly thrown out the window for substantially higher marks. It appears that the seller's business plan is to break the books out of the case, provide a substantially higher grade to the book, make up a story that they are his father’s books, then watch the money roll in. All at the expense of the buyer.

If eBay was concerned about protecting the consumer from fraud addictedtoasm should be banned. gossip.gif

This is an example of why it's better to buy only cgc books when it comes to "expensive or key books" on ebay.

If you can deal in person with a dealer you know at a con and can see the book it's different story.
