I apologize to whoever won it but it is a really crappy image in my opinion. The one that was listed in the previous auction was 1000x nicer for a similar price.

That one was even worse.

At least the one from the previous auction looked somewhat realistic. The executioner piece looked very comical and had no semblance of a realistic image. I assume it was desirable to someone because it was from a Warren cover.

That was me...I took the pic at an angle and you can see HA prettied it up in the catalog vs the true condition. I still love it as one of a kind is my number one motivator.IMG_1379.jpg.a60c4708a37d7495d20ad1bc655dbb5b.jpg

Just reiterating, some of those items in the pic are reflections, shadows and artifacts not actually on the artwork...especially the giant line that looks like a crease (which is a creation of the top lighting in the case itself, the glass shelf above this piece and the lighting in the convention hall.

Ouch I took a bath on that Michael golden avengers annual 10 page. Lost so much on that page that it eliminated all profit I made off the larger deal I made to get it. Damn...

looked like a great page too

33600 for the XM 129 page seems really strong.  Kitty first issue or Frost bikini and corset tax, like Gene suggested?

Probably both, plus multiple X-Men thrown in to boot. But, mostly the white panties. :insane:

Come on, y'all know I'm right. :sumo:

I would add that playing/paying with (some or all) 'house money'/consignment proceeds may have been a factor...

Sorry to hear that man. It's hard to handicap these things, but these pages have been the white whale for so many collectors you'd figure they were a safe bet to perform well.

What surprises me, is this had everyone on it, in one historic panel everyone remembers. Even Prof X, Spider-woman and Carol Danvers were on it. Last 4 pages look like they sold 15,14,15,44, and then mine at 9 something. Oh well I guess.

I love it just the way it is. I'm sure the owner is very happy too.

Sorry you were disappointed, I also thought it would do better.  It might be an action vs non action point.  I noticed that European collectors, including myself, tend  not to differentiate too much between action vs no action. This might not be the  case with US collectors...there must be a reason why all great US action movies have at least one car chase scene!

He worked at the highest level producing main stream books for 6 decades. He wasn’t being kept around for nostalgia purposes, he was just a really great artist who could pencil and ink in an ever evolving style for 50 years. People from their mid 60s to late teens have seen and liked a book that came out on the shelves in their youth, that he either pencilled or inked

....think about that...

Think of it like baseball. He basically was a .301 hitter who hit 25 HR with 90 runs and RBI’s a year. Pretty good right?  Now imagine that same stat line projected out year after year for 25 years? That would be first ballot hall of fame unanimous vote time.

That was who he was. He was the David Bowie of Comic artists, The Gordie Howe (maybe not the heights but the longevity and overall consistent great performance). Always working, always changing, always staying relevant, always connecting with the next generation of fans.

No one is even in the discussion when it comes to longevity and overall high standard of quality.

He could draw as well as anyone, he was equally skilled and pencilling and inking, he worked on merit alone twice as long as nearly anyone else not named Kirby, and he did it quickly with a sense of professionalism. To me, that’s top 5.

Russ Heath, Joe Kubert and, last but not least, Will Eisner.

This unpublished Vampirella Enric painting was a shocker. More than any published cover painting unless I’m mistaken. Great piece, but wow.

I'm pretty sure this is the one, unless Enric did multiples (at the same size?!), I saw at Conrad's WizardWorld Chicago in 2004 for 3k. That was a long time ago. $20k is pretty strong for unpublished Enric but they were never cheap.
