50 years ago: on sale at the Newsstand Nov. 1969

I finally found the source I was looking for that details what books were on sale when. It's called Mike's Amazing World. A wonderful compilation of information.

Just for fun here's a link that shows what books were on sale 50 years ago in November 1969. There is an incredible diversity of genres that were popular at the time. To my surprise I counted 12 different "Romance" titles not including the Archie type humor books. There were 11 Archie related books, 7 other Archie type titles from other publishers, 10 westerns, 6 non-humor war books, a large number of children's humor character books including 7 Walt Disney related titles put out by Gold Key. Overall, superheroes were in the minority when compared to everything else that was available at the time. Anyway, take a look and enjoy.

I’ve had a look at the Newsstand many times.  It’s fascinating.

Mainly revisiting the 70s Bronze Age, in my case.  Interesting just to play around and put in a random month and year from another comics period as well.

I go there all the time. I put in random months and years and then go through line by line and count how many books I have from that date. Could be one or two - or zero - from the 40's, and twenty-something or more from dates in the silver or bronze eras. Who says run-collectors are a thing of the past!

The toughest ones for me to recall definitively whether I own it at a glance are the Archies. The colors and subtle cover gags make it really tough to recognize them with a passing glance. The oddball publishers like ACG or Skywald are fun ways to add to your tallies! :shy:
