Slyde
Very large tear in cover that had been taped (see 2nd photo). MVS is intact. Trying to determine if it makes any sense to send this in for grading. Thanks! Edited December 9, 2020 by Slyde Galen130
William-James88
I think this could be a 1.5. What I wonder is if it would be considered restored or not. Slyde
theCapraAegagrus
1.8 IMO. Slyde
KCOComics
1.0 to 1.5 I don't think that's considered restored. You could send to CCS and have them take a look. Possibly remove the tape and do conservation? Slyde
Keys_Collector
1.5 and i'd send it in to get slabbed. Shouldn't be restored and should be a blue label 1.5 with notes of tape on inside cover. Slyde
Galen130
Reader copy...1.0/1.5. Getting slabbed isn't a bad idea. I'd see if any restoration is possible...IMO. Slyde

Slyde
I guess the cover tear was too much.... Here's my question: If the Marvel Value Stamp was missing (it isn't), would this likely have been a Purple label 0.5? WPPJames
Wow. .5 seems awfully harsh. I thought that was reserved for books with entire page(s) missing. ThothAmon
theCapraAegagrus
Yeah, 0.5 doesn't seem correct here.

theCapraAegagrus
The 0.5 is leading me to question: Is the tape archival/conservation quality? If not, they may be treating it as though the cover is 3/4 detached? Although, that doesn't make any more sense to me.
Slyde
General question: If this was your book, what would you do with it at this point? Just leave it alone? or would you look into restoration and re-submit? It's not like the tear is the only problem....
comicdonna
I would leave it alone, and call it the nicest .5 on the planet. Glassman10

Grader Notes:light staining to covermoderate bends to covermoderate creasing to coverthree fourths piece re-attached with tape cover CGC's current policy on tape is to grade as if the tape isn't there. Without the tape holding the 3/4 of the cover on it would be missing 3/4 of the front cover, ergo the .5 grade. If the tear wasn't complete it would probably have gotten the 1.0-1.8 everyone was guessing. Slyde

But I now see that its all the way across and that section would be completely detached if not for the tape. The-Collector
I was thinking 0.5. For a comp here is my book with a large fc tear (which is smaller than the IH181 here and less noticeable).

The IH #181 is a perfect example. Looking at the front cover photo pre-slab and afterwards almost looks like two different books.
