Well I mean there are models of customized bmws you can get for half a million right? Not saying it’s a up there with those Italian supercars but that’s still “elite” for a new car on some level. But I wasn’t saying BMW is elite just that for the cost of a top of the line model I can get an “elite” 1% piece of art. What I was going for anyway description wise. aokartman, MrBedrock and ShallowDan

There are some cleaning ladies who work in my building who pull up in BMW 3 series from which they take out their vacuum and other supplies. It’s less about what you drive than how you drive it, and maybe, mod it. If you love the art, buy it, and accept the price plus its consequences. Well if the selfies of you with the Jones painting are to be believed, you presumably drive barefoot, which is much easier to pull off with a Ford van. Rolling down the window of the BMW to ask if the other driver has any grey poupon is rather awkward if you have to step outside the vehicle barefoot during the condiment exchange. sfilosa
The real truth is because of leasing, almost anyone can afford a much nicer car than they can truly afford. I have a whole lease car analysis spreadsheet that I do before I buy/lease my next car(s), but in general, a lease lets you spread out the car costs over a longer period of time than purchasing a car. Meaning that if you would buy a car and usually pay it off in 5-6 years, a lease might feel like you are paying it off over 8-9. A lot has to do with the residual value that car companies "pretend" their cars will have at the end of the lease, but also with the idea that when they "lease" a car, it's considered "sold". Therefore, if you have customers that do 36 months leases, but would own a car for nine years, they can say they sold 3 cars under the lease scenario vs one sale. jjonahjameson11
Less than 24 hours to go before the live bidding segment and it’s a mixed bag of highs and lows and so-so’s. I’m sure the landscape will be totally different tomorrow. The Eisner Spirit 7-pager has taken a nice jump over the past 48 hours, while others haven’t moved a dollar in two weeks. The few hundred grand was from a few years ago. *Of course* one would expect the reserve/guarantee/market to be higher now. But nowhere near $6 million. The writer is a drooling eejit. Heritage is too smart to make blatantly false claims about the piece ("as perhaps Frazetta's most famous work", um, not even close) so the writer clearly went off the rails about that and, undoubtedly, about it rivaling Egyptian Queen in value. If we get a $5-6 million result on this, or even half that, I'm crying foul, as will any number of seasoned collectors and Frazetta experts. So 2.75 is the Park Shenanigans (tm) level? Already over a mil Doesn't appear to have a reserve though . Edited September 10, 2020 by Bronty

buttock
Am I the only one who is really bothered by the JIM 112 splash? The Hulk is so poorly drawn. His right pec is either absent or sagging down to his beltline. His head looks like a thumbtack, and his face looks like one of those $20 caricatures that you'd get at an amusement park if the Hulk was getting one drawn. Not to mention his shoulders. I try to be forgiving of Kirby out of appreciation for what he was often going for, but this is just... yeesh. delekkerste and ShallowDan

Yeah, everyone seems to be blown away by the splashiness of the page, but, the misshapen Hulk and Thor hiding his face are to me. That said, this isn't in my wheelhouse and fans of this era of Kirby may disagree.

It’s Kirby hulk Thor and splashy, but it’s not an image of the hulk I care for too much . But how many splashy hulk/Thor Kirby pages are you going to find is the counterpoint. It will be interesting Edited September 10, 2020 by Bronty

If you're the high bidder or planning to be the high bidder eventually, thumbs up to you and all, but on a personal level I think Jack (you guys know I kinda like Jack's work, right?) forgot how to draw the Hulk the moment he drew the last page of FF 12. Can't really think of another character whose model he so clearly forgot after that. Also: faceless Thor. But hey, that's just me -- if you love it, yay! delekkerste and Twanj
