Cracked holder/ ??

I bought this Amazing Fantasy in 2003 already graded but noticed there were some cracks to the holder. I am able to slide a fingernail between the front and back of the case in the middle of the slab. Is there any way to make sure this book and holder haven’t been tampered with maliciously? If I can submit the book for a  new holder, would that be the point when I find out if what I have is right? Am I just being paranoid? This is an older case but it worries me to submit the book at all as it I may be worth more than my car if it is correct. Any way u can tell from the pictures? I thank you for your time.

I just pulled it and about 30 other books that are cgc certified, I have been thinking about selling them off. This AF 15 has been out f a drawer 2 times since 2003 and I have a daughter starting Duqesne University, I have seen the sales of this book and others on Ebay. I have been kicking around the idea and was wondering if I could sell it as is or perhaps submit it for a new holder.

Unfortunately that comic is completely ruined. You should send it to me for proper disposal!

Kidding aside that comic looks gorgeous! It doesn't appear to be tampered with at all as others have said.

You could likely have it reholdered without issue. You could also sell it as is and I doubt you would have any trouble finding a buyer.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and congrats on making a great investment!

@Dino-Mutt you might want to keep it in that old case.  GENERALLY, old case books were not pressed to death as most submitted books are being done today.  People see value there.  If you sell through an auction house, my guess is that they'd have it reholdered.

There are much better places to auction that off.

Where would you suggest? Hakes was suggested by a family member who runs alot of stuff through them

I would go with Comiclink or Heritage.

+1 for Heritage and Clink

I would probably lean toward Clink personally. Do a little research to look at realized prices for similar AF15s. For big SA keys, I believe the two auction houses are on par (heritage really seems to do better with big GA books).

The difference will be the fees they charge you and the buyers premium. Heritage has an 18% buyers premium which will drive up their realized price but possibly leave less for you.  They also charge you a commission.

Clink charges a 10% commission I believe, but no BP.

Now, with a big book like this, you may have a little leverage and negotiating power. So, look at their terms, see who is realizing the best prices and then call them to discuss your specific situation.

It sounds like allot, but it's a big chunk of change and you really want to consider all the variables and make the best decision you can.
