sanzonw
Hi I've noticed recently that Pokemon slabs are no longer encased in their original design of a full enclosure of the card in a square but uses a design similar to psa with gaps in corners as shown in the recent trophy pikachus . I briefly looked through the news section if there was any information or press release on the changing of the slabs and could not find any information and would like to hear cgc's response and reasons for the change. kreativemente
Will find out in a week or so. I have a submission that shipped out. I'll compare it with my earlier ones and see if I can see a difference.
Hobby Central
I can confirm this change happened in the last month. I've gotten returns back reflecting this.
LuckyMouse
Interesting. The new slabs weigh about 3 g less as well. Looks the same otherwise.
darkness7
Are there any slabs out there that one can purchase that are very similar to the CGC slabs for trading cards? I collect Star Trek cards and wanted something like the CGC case. Thanks!
kreativemente
So I got my cards back and the slabs have indeed changed a bit Old Slab New Slab Edited August 26, 2021 by kreativemente greggy and darkness7 1
smeeeeee
thats the same case CSG uses for their sports cards, its to prevent corner damage. CGC couldve ran out of regular cases at one point and had to use CSG cases? i can see this being the case going forward

Maybe the newer one because you can see more of the card. But Im cool with either
CamelJR
You can see the original CGC holder here:https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/8436/cgc-trading-cards-holder/ Updated holder introduced for CSG here:https://www.csgcards.com/card-grading/holder-label/
Ron Churches
yeah, the CSG case (I think) is slightly better.
kreativemente
They might have updated it for ramping up to grading other kinds of trading cards. I can see how the old case would mess up sports cards with pointy corners, but for Pokemon having rounded corners, it would be mute. Buuuuuuut DBZ has pointy corners 👀

Why haven't they announced this yet? Lol kreativemente
Oreos
I like the new one better. So no complaints here 😂 IrishPrince
YUGIMEN
Maybe is because they’re getting ready to grade yugioh so they needed something that can work for Pokémon and yugioh cards? kreativemente
