I would hope the last words of someone killed by 1,000 Turoks 1s would be, "I know now, at the very end, that there's no 'c' in Turok..." :kidaround:

(For the record Turok #1 was only the 6th highest printed book the month it came out.  If anyone's dying from April 1993 overprinted books, blame D.C.)

Here's the list with the grades the books got. Note that in several cases (all the Veronica Sig Series books, and a handful of random others), there was more than 1 copy slabbed; if they got different grades, I only listed the best. Fair disclosure: I am responsible for one of the books on the list (it shouldn't require much effort to figure out which one) because it had to go back to Sarasota on a mechanical error ticket because it wasn't correctly labeled the first time around...

* This is only new because of a labeling change. There were 14 previous copies slabbed as "Canadian Edition" rather than "Canadian Price Variant". This isn't a QA error in my opinion, but it's a problem long-term that, when CGC changes their policy on labeling for a book, they don't have any way to merge the two populations of slabs.

** CGC made a mess of this. There were already copies slabbed of Flaming Carrot 28 with an 8/92 issue date, but they created a new book slot for this book with a "1992" issue date. This one is a QA error.

*** This is apparently a different book than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Presents April O'Neil 2, from the same year. Different story and art credits even. Turtles are weird.

Amazing Spider-Man #299 was given a brand new entry in the CGC Census this week (obviously by someone in data entry who knows nothing about CGC or comic books) simply because they entered the month as "04/88" instead of "4/88".  ASM #299 has been graded 6,000+ times, but they couldn't find that entry and seriously thought no one had ever bothered to submit a 33 year old regular issue of the most popular title in CGC history, Amazing Spider-Man.

Data entry positions at CGC should probably not be given to people who have no idea what CGC does.  If there's a general uptick in the number of quality control problems, CGC may not have to look further than whoever thought ASM #299 was something CGC had never graded before. 

I'm being harsh specifically because it's just so ridiculous, and because I have no idea who did it, so I don't have to picture them crying about how they didn't know and they'll do better in the future and please don't fire me, etc. :foryou:

Amazing Spider-Man #299 was given a brand new entry in the CGC Census this week (obviously by someone in data entry who knows nothing about CGC or comic books) simply because they entered the month as "04/88" instead of "4/88".  ASM #299 has been graded 6,000+ times, but they couldn't find that entry and seriously thought no one had ever bothered to submit a 33 year old regular issue of the most popular title in CGC history, Amazing Spider-Man.

Data entry positions at CGC should probably not be given to people who have no idea what CGC does.  If there's a general uptick in the number of quality control problems, CGC may not have to look further than whoever thought ASM #299 was something CGC had never graded before. 

I'm being harsh specifically because it's just so ridiculous, and because I have no idea who did it, so I don't have to picture them crying about how they didn't know and they'll do better in the future and please don't fire me, etc. :foryou: 

The stack of 1940s books that are slabbing virgins is interesting to me, especially Dottie Dripple 1. Harvey Publications took over that series from Magazine Enterprises starting with #8, and most of the Harvey issues are already on the census. But neither of the Magazine Enterprises issues are. That Dottie Dripple 1 was only good for a 4.0, so it certainly wasn't the Mile High copy that sold at Heritage back in 2006.

The stupidity of the ASM 299 is really the standout entry for this batch, though. In and of itself, that wouldn't be as bad of a problem, except that CGC clearly never thought this sort of thing could happen when they built the system, because when a single entity is incorrectly given two different identifiers, they don't seem to have any way to merge those records. That's why we have Canadian Editions vs. Canadian Price Variants. Same books, just a change in label philosophy, but they're (apparently permanently) separate entities in the census (and such things play havoc with the registry). This one's even less understandable than the Canadian shenanigans because it was just someone messing up date formats; as an on-and-off programmer, I appreciate how much date formats :censored: but that's still not an excuse here.
