I'm not really giving an opinion here other than to say I doubt they or anybody has warehouses or even one warehouse full of GA stuff. If that's the case I'll take a pallet of Contact 12's as well. But I get you're point.  Do they buy and keep stuff until they feel is the optimum time to sell? I'm sure they do. That's kind of the way to do it if you're "only in it for the money". Then again they can't keep it too long after getting it graded because they would be on the census, and the less on the census the better for the sellers.

But this has got me thinking. I always thought all the books in the auctions of HA, CC, and CL were all owned by people who are using these auction houses to sell their stuff. But are some of the books in their auctions actually owned by the auction houses? And/or do they sometimes bid on and buy books they are selling on their own auctions by using a proxy bidder perhaps (who later becomes a proxy seller) ? If so that seems unethical.

Adjusting bids? I'm not sure what that means but it sounds illegal. Wow, I wrote much more than I planned. I just came by to see some sweet Promise books. :1514325239_yeehawemoji:

Shill bidding is legal in Texas, but shill bidding in an online auction is a federal crime (wire fraud). I don't doubt that some sellers attempt to place shill bids, the law be damned.

Interesting. I was just responding to another post but then I began wondering if any of the books in the online auction sites (HA,CL,CC) are owned by those sites. I had never considered that before.

shill bidding is not legal in texas?...it is legal for employees of an auction house to bid on that auction house offerings, but shill bidding is very much illegal for texas auctioneers

Is it legal for consignors to bid on their own books? Or friends acting on their behalf?

Heritage does have a warehouse full of comics! I know, I was there!

In a mano a mano beatdown fight to the death, who's got the larger warehouse...............Halperin's warehouse full of his winnings awaiting future auctions or CGC's warehouses full of books awaiting grading and slabbing.    :taptaptap:  :taptaptap:  lol

Auction Houses and insiders have warehouses full of GA and all comics to clean & press & release to the public in order to maximize their profit.  Heritage (for all items) adjusts the bids, keeps items for themselves, makes sure other items are for max bid, etc., etc.

so much misinformation here I frankly don't know how to respond.  I did laugh though.

Instead of 1 guy, me, giving anecdotal/circumstancial evidence....let's think big picture.  Think about all the blatant lies we see everywhere else, even right in front of millions on the television.  Why wouldn't auction houses control the action??  It's all totally in-house.

The leading staff of the largest most famous auction houses (not just comics)....were hired right off of the parking lot of Honest Larry's Slightly Used Cars.

My advice....if it doesn't seem right, it isn't right.  No matter what they say.

An example of the warehouse. Geppi sent heritage basically his entire collection built up over the years. Part of that included the over 500,000 Harvey file copies. It’s why groups of those sold in years past. I bet that’s only been dented.

Assume you have a $10 million collection of 1000 long boxes of 40s - 70s. Better to have Heritage hold it with a sales plan than to have your heirs deal with it just after you die.

Thus warehouses of comics including GA. Like DeBeers, they can’t flood the market.
