Thoughts on Benes?

I just read through Superman 222....I gotta say, I'm enjoying Ed Benes' art more and more....I don't know if he's getting better, or if I'm just appreciating it more, but it shore is purdy.....

 

 

Is there any buzz on this guy? I know he did a bunch of Birds of Prey issues, too....

I just got done reading the iss. in question and was thinking how good the art was. I had never heard of him before this run, but I think the art was outstanding.

I just found out the other day he did Birds of Prey. I really like his art. He's kinda like Jim Lee, but his style is much cleaner.

I like Ed's work a lot! It seems like he made a comeback of sorts when he and Gail Simone started their run on Birds of Prey. My local comic book owner once called him a poor man's Jim Lee(not like thats a bad thing to be called). I thought the villian Savant in BOP had sort of a Joe Madureira style to him. Anyway, keep it coming Ed!

ED BENES REPORT FOR 12/07/05

 

Ed did the cover for SUPERMAN #224 but Tom Denerick did the interior art. DC solicited it with Ed Benes art.

I really like his art as well. What issues of BOP did he do?

He did issues #56 - #80 but there were some fill-in artists during his run including Tom Derenick, Jim Fern, Ron Adrian, Joe Bennett and Michael Golden.

I think he's a pretty good artist. He's definitely played off of the success of other artists. But with time, he may develop something entirely his own.
