I may have the timing wrong - I bought it for work and it could have been 2004 rather than 1996 that I'm thinking of.  Lots of different jobs in those days.  This is what it looks like

Yeah that's later than the 90's. I've got a Palm Pilot that looks just like that, but with an external antennae. It was from around 2004ish.
