Look at these two books below. Have you ever wondered why Flash was in such a cack-handed pose on the cover of the King Comic's Flash Gordon #10? He looks like he's put his back out, and is struggling to move.

But now we can see why, as the pose is a direct swipe of the Fantasy Reader that preceded it:

 

Our cover girl takes up so much space on that cover, that Flash had to bend down to fit in.

So here, the similarity is deliberate. Flash was copied. So it is not 'oddly similar'.

There are no hard and fast rules of course - people are free to post what they like, and I've posted some fairly obvious swipes myself, but oddly similar books like these two below will get a special nod of appreciation from me:

At least we have a photo of it!  I'd buy that book in a heartbeat (hard to control this fetish...) 

I've been waiting for Quasar Comics to come down on their price for the 31, 32, 33 CGC copies they have on feebay.  Slowly....  very slowly they've now reached the $500 mark.

I wonder if the one on the right is the "cerebral palsy" giveaway listed on GCD, which I thought was just an error in attribution to the military one.

There's a thought. I assumed it was misattributed too, given the prevalence of the full coloured copy. First one to find a copy finds out!

My introduction to Flash Gordon was the 1980's Film, Classic but Cheese

As mentioned above the Williamson work  was excellent! The story's IMHO were very simplistic even in their own day.

that hand is all sorts of messed up, where's the thumb (seems like her hand is in a really unnatural position) ? I don't have a copy of this book, does she have any fingernails? I can't tell from the scan.

Her thumb is naturally hidden from our perspective, but she does not seem to have fingernails.

Maybe Al thought that the ray gun would blend in with that background building if he kept the lines parallel.  Bend the gun!  The colors on the actual cover are my preferred version (no lipstick).  I don't have one of those postcards.
