Could it be soft drink or something got spilled on the back on the book, and it's turned a bit mouldy on the front as a result?

Definitely had something spilled on it, you can see the water/moisture damage. As was said above, maybe it lead to mold. If it was a sugary soda like Big Red or something, that could be the case.

I think you mean mold.  A mole is a small animal (kind of ugly) that lives underground, or a defect in the skin (might be ugly, might not).

Thanks. I fixed it.I think I was tired after work.

20 years ago my basement flooded and damaged my comics. Today I got some of water stains out with distilled water and warm tap water. I still have to press.

Now it might be a 2.5

I appreciate the original poster's efforts to fix a damaged book...please note though that it is a 2.0 grade at best no matter what you do to it at this point because of the apparent mold spot and staining. You can press and CPR that thing for hours and it won't change much else other than have it be slightly more presentable. And please, for your own sake (unless you are doing so because you love it), don't waste money grading it.

Yeah, you can buy a slab of this one with a pretty high grade for relatively cheap.
