Weird substance in the plastic case

I've sent a book back for an ME because it had what looks like newton rings or something in the case. They sent it back and now it looks worse. None of my other books in the shipment had this effect on them. It looks like they didn't even recase the book?

Sorry your slab looks like this, I'm sure you already know it happens because the plastic of the outer case is laying against the inner well. The following may not solve the issue, but it might reduce or alter the oil art:

Use a suction cup to gently pull away the front of the outside holder in various locations and in various ways to see if you can get something less distracting to your eye.

Hope this offers a bit of relief.

The only thing that I can suggest is to send it back... Again...

Eventually, CGC will get tired of paying $500 on shipping the same book back-and-forth 10 times, and change one of their "well" materials so that the Newton Ring effect becomes obsolete. Eventually... Maybe...

I agree with that! Seriously they turned it around in record time but seeing they didn't do anything I guess that's why. What's the point of them paying for overnight shipping and then not recasing the book. I emailed them and see what the response is. I mean it's not a huge book obviously but when you pay $25 to get graded you expect it to not look like that. I've submitted several hundred books the past 2 years and never had an issue like this.

Do you mean that you avoided rings for two years or that they always fixed it?

I guess I've been lucky because this is the first one I've had that looked like this. I haven't any newton rings at all. I have had to return a couple books for scratches on the case but not these "newton" ring issues.

I was notified today that i can continue to submit as an ME but it's up to the grader to see if I get charged the second time. So you spend tons of money and one book they won't fix. Great job CGC. They did not reholder the book after I resubmitted as an ME.

1st pic is before the second is after ME submission this is what I get back.

how can you say that, there is no indication they did not reholder the book and all indication that they in all likelihood did

the issue is their QC department should not allow a book to go back out again with excessive newton rings when they are reslabbing for that very issue .... bad enough they didn't stop it the first time

I'm with Capra on his response

If you've only just gotten it back, shoot a message to support with the images of the Newton rings. They'll reholder it for free. There's always a risk it comes back worse, but yours are already pretty bad.

They probably reholdered it, but shot it back out the door; remember these MEs aren't making them money and one time is usually enough to satisfy.

If you'd like to show full pics of the slabs we could do a "spot the difference", but based on the rings it appears you were reholdered.
