This was an easy slate of books for some, and a dream-crushing set for others.  Here are a few other notable observations based on the data reported above:

  • Book #1 (Red Dragon #7):  Arguably, the most perplexing book of this round, with only 11% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 34% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about 1.5 grade increments more critical than CGC (4.7 vs 5.5).  Since when does a book with spine ticks, staple tears, soft corners, and a nasty 1" taped tear ( :whatthe: ) deserve a grade above 4.5?  (shrug)
  • Book #2 (Superboy #68):  One of the two easiest books for the Board as a whole, with 35% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 72% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one-half grade increment more lenient than CGC (3.3 vs 3.0).  (thumbsu
  • Book #3 (Captain America #117):  A hit-or-miss book for the Board as a whole, with only 15% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 32% within one grade increment of CGC.  Many players missed the faint creasing at the BRC of the front cover and/or the small stain on the back cover.  As a result, the Board was collectively 1.5 grade increments more lenient than CGC (9.1 vs 8.5).  :cry:
  • Book #4 (Werewolf By Night #32):  One of the two easiest books for the Board as a whole, with 40% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 69% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one-half grade increment more lenient than CGC (4.3 vs 4.0).  :banana:
  • Book #5 (Sentai #2): A challenging book for many players, with 27% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 57% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about 1.5 grade increments more critical than CGC (8.2 vs 9.0).  The grader notes (color-breaking spine stress, light staple rust, light finger bends, light foxing) sure don't suggest that this is a 9.0 copy!  :facepalm:  :sumo:  PS: could all my future submissions please be routed thru this grader?  :wishluck:

I have never missed a book by a book by remotely as much as I missed Sentai #2 by. I assumed those white spine lines were creases and gave it a 6.0. I originally had it as a 7.0 but I thought, no, this is a newish book that would be graded harshly. Wrong…
