According to Mike's grade distribution table, 89 players completed Round 4 (down from 104 at sign-up, 97 in Round 1, 92 in Round 2, and 91 in Round 3).  Here are the key measures of central tendency for this round (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade):

The Board scored fewer bulls-eyes in Round 4 (79 total, or 18% of all grades submitted) than in Round 1 (125 total, or 26% of the grades submitted) and Round 3 (91 total, or 20% of all grades submitted), but the same as in Round 2 (79 total, or 17% of all grades submitted).  Here are a few other notable observations based on the data reported above:

  • Book #16 (Big 3 #7):  The easiest book for the Board as a whole with 30% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 67% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about one-half grade increment more lenient than CGC (3.8 vs 3.5).
  • Book #17 (Dynamic Comics #11):  A challenging book for the Board as a whole, with only 15% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 48% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about 1.5 grade increments more lenient than CGC (5.3 vs 4.5).
  • Book #18 (Detective Comics #312):  An "average" book for the Board as a whole, with 21% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 61% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was almost one grade increment more lenient than CGC (5.9 vs 5.5).
  • Book #19 (Fantastic Four #48):  Another challenging book for the Board as a whole, with only 13% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 52% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was slightly more than one grade increment more lenient than CGC (6.6 vs 6.0).
  • Book #20 (Star Spangled War Stories #51):  The most difficult book for the Board as a whole, with only 9% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 36% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was about 1.5 grade increments more lenient than CGC (7.2 vs 6.5).

WOW!  I thought for sure that last round was gonna push me out of the top three.  We had a nice group of ties within points of each other (the whole top ten).  When that War Stories turned out to be a 6.5 instead of the 7.5 I gave it, I was sure that was it.  We all have a little skill-sharpening to do (or maybe the CGC graders do.... :devil:).
